Default Does anyone here celebrate Hanukkah?

We have just made contact with some family in New York.
Thanks to the powers of t'internet!

We haven't been in contact for years and it would appear that
my aunty has married and has a Jewish family.

I was going to send them Christmas gifts but now that is obviously not appropriate.
I was just wondering if it would be ok for me to send gifts for Hanukkah.
Is Hanukkah the same time as Christmas? When does it start?
Are there any other festivals I should know about?

I apologise for my ignorance but what kind of gifts to people exchange?

I have done a google and found a little about the festival of light but not much about what gifts to give if any?

Do they make Happy Hanukkah cards?

We have so many years of lost gift giving I would like to send something this year.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Hanukkah gifts are generally not on the same scale as Christmas gifts. Some families give little gifts every day for each of the 8 days the festival lasts.

It is completely different to Christmas - there is no connection apart from the fact that they occur around the same time of the secular year.

They do make happy Hanukkah cards, but you'll only find them in newsagents in north London

The gifts are more for the kids than for the parents, but there is no special theme in the presents you can give. anything you want really.

I was brought up a jew, and my hanukkah presents were my equivalent of my mates christmas presents, just not as many and maybe not as expensive.

hope this helps

Yeah I'm Jewish, send them presents, New York Jews Love it! Go on google, type in 'New York Hanukkah gifts' and behold the volume of stuff that comes up. Really nice thought and it will be appreciated

A Hanukkah joke.

My mother once gave me two sweaters for Hanukkah. The next time we visited, I made sure to wear one. As we entered her home, instead of the expected smile, she said, "What's the matter? You didn't, like the other one?"
