DVLA will not give me my 'stolen' plate back...
Does anyone have any solutions or experiences -
Was enquiring with DVLA about transferring my cherished plate to my new car after the Scoob was stolen, and after the insurance have now coughed up. They said I have to wait 12months or until car is recovered. I also need to get a letter from the insurance company saying I own it!!! {of course I b well own it, you cant INSURE a sequence of numbers and letters FFS and the DVLA initially cashed the cheque signed by me!!!!!}
Surely the plate I paid good money for relates to ME and is merely a means of cross referencing vehicle X with owner X. As the original vehicle is stolen, the plate gives no culpability or access to the current driver – the plate relates ONLY to ME. In fact any thief would be very foolish to keep the plate on the car and would certainly have changed it if the vehicle is going to be used or exported. The thieves CANT steal my plate – it is an intellectual property right so surely I have the right to use it? I have no issue being stopped by the police to check why the plate is now on a different car – showing my photo ID driving licence will take only minutes... Also any speed cam photos with this plate on a Subaru wont be mine...
Insult to injury...

I presume you've sent off the vehicle reg documents to get the insurance to pay out?
Get onto them ASAP for that letter as technically the insurance co now own it!!!!!!!
Been through this before and it's a case of waiting the year and keep that letter safe.

My dad had his Range Rover stolen a while back and was never recovered which had a private plate on it at the time. He was warned that he would have to wait 12 months but was given the OK after 3 months IIRC
