Modern kid's names??
Ok, we went through the Chelsea stage, when president Clinton was in power.
The Yanks have always had this idea that girls, especially, should have two surnames instead of a first name and a surname: eg Madison Smith??? Bailey Jones??? etc.
But this morning I saw a lovely little kid on 5, and her name was.................wait for it....................Boston
WTF

It's a free for all now. Surnames, places, your favourite breakfast cereal - practically anything will do. Met a couple (American ) who called their son Nyan. Explanation:
"We liked the sound of Ryan but wanted a name beginning with N"
wtf?

I knew a physicist who joked with his wife that his children ought to be called Alpha, Beta, Gamma etc after the particles/rays.
His wife came round from delivery of their first, and was asked by a nurse what the baby girl was to be called. She was a bit woozy, so replied, "Alpha".
Sure enough, the poor girl got stuck with it.
Fortunately they only had the one.

And Mercedes was named after Emil Jellinek's daughter; Herr Jellinek (the offical importer for USA, UK, Austria) agreed to purchase a large order of Daimler-Benz cars on condition his daughter's name appeared on them.

As for Mercedes, wasn't she the daughter of one of the backers of Karl Benz?
