Default hitting back at the system (in a very small way)

Im fed up with shopping and the whole experience.
its too crowded, everybody thinks they own the precinct/high street or whatever and its getting my goat.

worst of all, should you happen to manage to get to a checkout, the person behind said till holds up your note high and mighty to check its real!!
FFS.
they have disceet machines that do this without any need for bother/fuss/humiliation of customer.

so, next time this happens, and they give you your change, make a point of holding it up to the light to check it, very obviously.

trial run this morning has shown both attempts have reduced till person to cowering embaressed wishing they hadnt done the same thing to me two minutes earlier.
result.
even better, in sainsbury's today, one of the notes in my change was dirty/crumpled so I declined to accept it as I argued that it was defaced, little oik who thought he was the king before looked like he had wee'd himself and didnt know what to do, where to look.

queue behind me in stitches and one dear actually started to heckle the till-boy.
try it, its childish but fun

I have to agree here. I used to work in Iceland during my summer break before uni. It was 'till policy' to check for the line and watermark in notes and not something I'd do for fun. Checking returned notes may be humorous to those who find that sort of thing funny but in real life I doubt you'll be hitting back at any sort of system.

Does sound fun. It's simply treating the shops in exactly the same way you're being treated, fair play I say.

if oik doesnt like it then fukc him, let him get another job where he will like it.

people who say, "its only my job" need a knee to the groin

here's a great way to check notes, either put them through a UV lens at low level as per 90% of shops (they just dont use them!) or take a slight knick through the watermark, it should be metal hence wont tear through,
NOT hold it up as high as possible with a screwed up face....

hactually, I only started this because the little old lady in front of me in the shop felt really cheapened by the oik with the fiver to the sky trick.
I could see she was taken aback at the suggestion of criminal ways.
So I made my stand while she was stil packing her wares away to make her feel better.

she left smiling

then I thought I'd continue it on into any future shopping I do.

Question

And are you going to bite pound coins to make sure they aren't lead?

I guess its cause I worked at the golden arches all though college and uni, so got a lot of ****e off a lot of people who didn't know me from Adam but judged me all the same. So I always try to remember those experiences when dealing with people in the same position...

Some forgeries are so good now, most people are unaware they are carrying them in their wallet/purse. However, a shop has to be more vigilant due to their increased exposure to forgeries. As mentioned before, said oik may just be following procedure. Some places will dock forgeries from the staff wages. When someone checks money I've just given them (normally $20 bills), I normally comment that it "better be genuine as I just got it from the cashpoint". Can't say it's ever bothered me before.

Here in Canada, almost all places will not accept $100 notes and most places will not accept $50 bills. They won't even look at them, just point to a sign saying they don't accept them at all. Consider yourself lucky that they'll even check your notes.

I also worked for the big M at college.

we had a UV system down the side of the till which meant I could verify the note without humiliating the customer.

lazyness dictates that they hold it up to the light.

the sign on the door doesnt say, "the customer will be made to feel a cheap, lying fraud" does it?

alternatively acquire as many of the BOGOF stylee offers from said premises, distribute freely to your family and friends, consume the freebies with rampant abandon and watch their carefully forecast increase in business cost them dearly through too many freebies

Nope, it also doesn’t say "You shall abuse and deride the people working behind the counter even though you don't know them and specifically because you know they cannot respond".

For additional effect "test" each coin they give you by biting on it in a comedy "checking for gold content" fashion!

I used to get grief form a local shop OWNER (No management telling him what to do) when I was about 10 - So one day I went in to sort him out. I selected 100 black jacks (when you could still buy black jacks without feeling you were a racist) and plonked them on the counter. Told the guy there's a hundred there. He proceeded to count them one by one - Very slowly - Obviously thinking this was annoying me .

Should have seen his face when I paid with 100 pennies .

You should try using Scottish Notes in Englandshire - That can be fun seeing their little faces thinking "Wht the **** is this "

If its the companies policy then it is "only there job" if you've ever worked in a shop then tou'd realise that your being ignorant by blaming the system on a worker also i know many shop which don't have anyway of checking apart from looking at the note.

We no longer accept Northern currency due to the huge amount of forgeries that have been given to us, and before someone says you've got to as its blah blah blah we don't have to enter into a contract with anyone if we don't want to so nerrrrrrr

Sorry, touchy subject as all the teenage oiks think we must, cos it's the law, sell them ciggies if they say they're 16 and have proved it to one of our cashiers at some point in the past

Used to get change for a £5 when using the old Scottish £1 notes in Engerland - but they don't seem to be around anymore .
