Question How do you buy stuff from the MOD?

Hi

I've seen loads of army surplus stuff from the likes of ebay et al, does anyone know how you cut the middle man out and go straight to the MOD?

I'm wondering if there's money to be made?

Yeah, summat like that, depends on price really, if they're too much I might just get a tank instead

Or I might just look into ration packs, stoves, clothing, that sort of thing

They usually auction off stuff in big job lots so the surplus stores buy up loads of kit in one go, 100 stoves, 100 jackets etc.

Whitham Specialist Vehicles are sole agents for vehicles and machinery now, so that's who you need to speak to if you're after a tank.

Be warned, armoured vehicles are relatively cheap to buy but crippling to run. The Land Rovers are brilliant value if you pick a good one, i had a 110 for a year and wish i'd never sold it now.

Cheers Iwan...I'm not actually after a nuke or a tank! I've considered a Landy but can't afford one plus I gather they don't have power steering...anyhoo, I was thinking more of a smaller scale, hence the stoves n stuff. Do you know where and when the auctions are or how to find out? Cheers

Neil, I was hiding from you mate Where were you?

All sorts of interesting toys there. Oh for an unlimited budget! Could soon own a Scammel recovery truck, all terrain tracked troop carrier, fre engine etc!

I'm waiting for the US military to sell off more of their Hum-vee's (currently a bit pricey). Wouldn't mind swapping my lightweight for one

Try looking around on the MOD website, they used to have a page for their disposals agency which listed the places they offloaded stuff through.

Mine didn't have power steering, but after a while i got used to it and it was fine to drive (i'm not exactly a lightweight), parking and 3 point turns can be a bit of a pain though. The Land Rovers get a lot of abuse in service life but the good thing is they get looked after and serviced whenever needed, my C-reg one was mechanicly loads better than a lot of 2 or 3 year old models i've seen around farms.

Plus you get cool features like specal NATO lighting, infra red reflective paint, bullet casings lying in nooks and crannies etc.
