Question Most efficient stand alone room heater?

Need a heater to heat our kitchen as it used to be a skullary and does not have any radiators. Been looking for a few but what's the best type?

Oil Filled
Fan
Convector

Cheers

Oil seconded...although I don't have one for sale - so my advice is impartial

Covector is the quickest at heating up, but the heat isn't so comfortable, if you understand, it's more on/off and sometimes make the room feel stuffy.

Oil jobbies radiate heat as well as convect, temperature of the rad more constant so is more comfortable, although take longer to heat up the room. Ideally the 2kw+ ones are the best, the lesser powered ones can be a little weedy if it's a large room.

You can also get water filled rads - almost identical to central heating rads, yet have their own heater and pump built in. Propbably no better than an oil filled though.

I was going to ask if there was a connection between Jimbo's opinion and the fact that he had one for sale...

Oil it is then.

Been rumbled...:-)

No in all honestly i did the same comparison you are doing about a year ago in terms of heating our rather large conservatory and oil was the way to go. I had 2 of them but then had central heating radiiaters installed in their so now have the radioaters for sale. Will be puttin them on ebay but thought i would be cheeky on here first.. if your interested though let me know and i can avoid having to create yet another ebay ad.. i have a 2kw and a 2.5kw one.

Im a pauper scum human and dont have central heating in my dwelling. For this reason I have a gas fire in my living room and electric heaters elsewhere - including the bathroom coz I'm impervious to be power of amps

The oil heater is the most economical if you're leaving one on for a period of time - but the convectors are ideal (if you whack em on a mains timer) to say warm up your room for when you're getting ready for bed, or getting up in the morn etc...You know - 10 mins here 10 mins there...

Dont buy flat panel oil filled radiator thingies - sooo ineefective!!

And fans are a no no - you pay top heat the element thingy and to power the fan!!

Nightmare!!!
