Watched the trailer yesterday. Looks quite good. Courting controversy though over oral sex between two of the puppets. It's finding difficulty in getting an R from the MPAA instead of the NC-17.

South Park creators in trouble with new movie
With its scenes of graphic puppet 'relations' and allegations that it mocks the war on terrorism, the new film from Trey Parker and Matt Stone is nothing if not controversial...
Team America: World Police is accompanied by all the usual controversy that seems to follow creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the team behind South Park, wherever they go. From accusations of excessive puppet lovemaking to allegations that the film mocks the current war on terrorism, Team America has whipped American media watchdogs into a veritable frenzy of indignation ahead of its release there this Friday.
Taking its inspiration from Thunderbirds, the movie was filmed entirely with wooden puppets (complete with very visible strings). The idea came in 2003 when Stone and Parker were watching TV and came across re-runs of the cult British show. Instantly intrigued, the two decided a marionette action film would be "the perfect way to send up all those Jerry Bruckheimer movies".
The Team America of the title is a renegade group of underground police who travel the globe, wiping out terrorists. When Broadway star Greg Johnston (voiced by Parker) is recruited by the head of Team America to help halt a rogue dictator in his tracks - he is the only actor good enough to pass himself off as Middle-Eastern, despite his Caucasian descent - he agrees to sacrifice a promising career for a higher cause.
After lengthy discussions with the film's creators, the Motion Picture Association of America agreed to reduce the original, ultra-restrictive, NC-17 rating which bars admission to anyone aged 17 or under, to a R which permits younger children to see the film if accompanied by an adult.
At least nine edits of a puppet sex scene were shown to the MPAA before they agreed to the R rating - but writer Matt Stone isn't entirely happy with the final edit, saying: "The puppets did make love for about three and half minutes, now it's just a cheap one-night stand."
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Trey Parker said he was surprised that the MPAA seemed more concerned with sex than violence in his film, which includes scenes in which UN weapons inspector Hans Blix is eaten by the North Koren leader Kim Jong-Ill's sharks and Hollywood liberal Susan Sarandon is dropped from a skyscraper.
US conservatives have also been claiming the film is another attempt to persuade people not to vote for George W Bush in the forthcoming US elections.
However, Matt Stone was quoted in the Pagesix column of the New York Post as saying: "If anyone walks out of this movie, or a Michael Moore movie, thinking about voting a certain way, then they're ****ing stupid and shouldn't be voting. If this movie makes you think that much, then you're too weak-kneed to vote."

The few clips I've seen are funny but the first few clips of South Park were also humourous until they used the same formula over and over again and it became tiresome. Gonna check it out anyway.

Seem to recall the Bush Administration making some comment about it mocking "the war on terrorisim" (hmm, I don't see Bushy boy sorting out the IRA, only some group that happened to give the US a wakeup call it bloody well needed) and Trey and Matt replying saying "thanks for the publicity!"
Not sure if I'm going to see it or not, probably wait for it on DVD. Most yanks will laugh at it, but not "get" that Matt and Trey are actually poking fun at the US. Irony, the yanks just don't get it, at all, ever.
