Submarine: Sorry mate, sold as seen!!!
Anyone else following the submarine saga about the sub we just sold to Canada catching fire before they'd even got past Ireland?

Yep, sad to hear one of the crew died from his injuries.
It's the 2nd one to be sold to them by the Navy. The first one had loads of trouble on the way back to Canada too
Anyone else want to buy some old WWII subs?

Motorised? No, really? I'd thought they'd be rowing it back to port
The Ministry of Defence said the motorised Anglian Prince was towing the Chicoutimi through the Atlantic at a speed of about three knots towards the Clyde area.

Not exactly Sold as Seen as they'd been doing trials on it for the last couple of weeks and it was ok then. It was decided (wrongly) that it was in ok condition for a trip across the pond before refitting rather than doing it here. Must get better job rates in America/canada than here. Watched it sail out as I live down the coast from Faslane.
Shame about the crewman. Submariners worst nightmare - fire.
Alas

Was it ever made clear why the helicopter wasn't dispatched to them somewhat earlier? The vessel got into trouble on Tuesday and it took until yesterday for them to lift people off it. I was guessing that it was weather related but even so the submarine was about 110 miles out and that is within the range of the helicopter even with a significant headwind. They also knew it's precise position so there was no "search" factor. I have also seen helicopters lift casulties off in bigger seas, though the fact that the sub has no power must add to the problems.
Either way I suspect there is a story there that someone doesn't want us to hear.
