Personal Reg Plates
If you put a personal plate on your car, what happens to the current registration number on the car.. !!
Or should I say, If you later sell your car and want to take your personal plate with you, does the original plate go back on the car...
Hope that makes sense....
Cheers in advance....

They put it on file.
If its worth selling they sell it.
If its not, there is a good chance you will get it back later when you sell/change your car.
My car was on a cherished plate for 3 years, when I sold it on the original E reg plate was put back on it, this was a while back now though.......Hmmmmmm 1991/2

Check with the DVLA - you may be able to keep the old plate on retention if that's what you want to do - it is done annually and there is a fee to pay but that way you can keep hold of the old plate (i think).
My friend has a plate on retention and he pays £25 per year to keep the number. He has a form V778 Retention Document. (Relevant DVLA dept 01792 782581).
