Question Does anyone here claim/claimed a Per diem?

Does anyone on here claim/claimed a per diem when staying away from home on business? To Pay for Accomodation/Food etc.

If so was it paid seperate to your wages and not taxed. Or Taxed and you then had to reclaim that back at the end of the year?

Had a search on google groups etc. but the answer didnt jumpout an bite me.

Do you know if there is an IR agreed limit on the per diem?

Or do all expenses have to be receipted?

Per Diem is usually an allownce and is provided without the use of receipts. Basically companies deal with business expenses in 2 ways (1) PerDiem - eat mcdonnalds and get pissed for free (2) Expenses - Usually set to a limit (ish) so eat steak and drink wine for free. I had about 5 years of this and it was great!

We have receipted to a value in UK (£17 for meals + some other allowances (paper, phone calls etc), and allowance per day when overseas, dependant on which country you are in (usually about £30-40 ish).

I'm not up on current Tax legislation, but I understand it has to do with corporate relief , which is set on a company by company basis.

i am interested in replies.

I would rather have an allowance for everything,as the current UK allowance *compells* me to spend £17 on a meal, when I might just fancy a bag of chips and a couple of pints.

my company runs on the basis of

you pay ... you get reciept... we reimburse..

sounds great.... until you dont sweep the money back to pay the cc bill..

then you get interest on the cc... not good
