Thumbs up End of the Line for the Tories?

Well, Well, FOURTH place in Hartlepool!

I have been concerned that the population may forget what a disaster for the country the Tories were - but, it seems, the public has a long memory!

Labour have just about put right the damage done by the Tories - now, they need to march on and improve still further ............ look how well off everyone is!!

I can't see how the same people who shout that they have made £200k on their house in 2 weeks and then slag the very people off who made the conditions for that to happen!

Anyway, are the Tories finished??

I think they are .................................................. . GOOD!!

Oh, yes, get well Tony - Scoobynet wishes you a fine, fast recovery!!

It doesn't look too good does it? Until that is you realise that it has been a Labour 'safe seat' for decades and decades. Their majority has been reduced from 14,200 odd to just 2,000. It's also worth noting that the Tories came second here in the last General Election. I don't think it's worth reading too much into a By Election result in such a place. It certainly does not represent the split nationwide.

But Pete, the Blues have pledged free banana mash for pensioners. Under the Reds banana mash will be the subject of high tax and portion control.

By-elections are no indicator of general election voting intentions. The Liberals always do well as they are the dustbin everyone places their protest votes in. Come general election time everyone reverts to type and votes for either of the serious parties. And that means Labour in Hartlepool.

As an instinctive Tory I have to say Tony hasn't been too bad - he's public school at the end of the day - but the prospect of Brown is very worrying. Tony knows that and realises Brown would struggle to win an election as leader with his 50% tax plans etc, that's why he's carrying on.

Cool Economic powerhouse

The UK is the economic powerhouse of Europe and well rid of the tory years of boom and bust. Well done new labour!

If it had gone down the sh1tter, everyone would be carping on about what a shocking job the government had done. ..

Excellent statement from a Tory ..... and absolutely correct too!

Of course, at 76, I may never see any leader other than Tony and that will suit me fine!

But, without going into detail, it *is* all going down the 'sh1tter'. Just wait for the 'third term' then you'll see....

PAH!! POPPYCOCK!!

This country is in the BEST state it has been in for decades, maybe EVER!!

Look at how well off everyone is who frequents SN!

Look at the cars, the running costs, the house prices, the high wages - would all that have happened under the Tories?? WOULD IT HELL!!

The Tories were too busy lining their own thieving pockets!

erm - Thats because a scoob is an expensive car, so you tend to get 'better off' people running them and joining the likes of scoobynet. As for the country being in the best state - it is reasonably economically stable, but look at crime, education, health service, etc etc basically everything but the economy is a shambles. (unless of course you believe the non-stop spin )

Eh? Inflated property prices, record borrowing, pensions in crisis, record borrowing (again, but by Brown this time), oil prices at an all time high due to the illegal war in Iraq.

Yea, they're really keeping a lid on the economy.

And this from the man who in 1998 went on the BBC urging Blair/Clinton to invade Iraq for the purpose of .... regime change!!!

Makes his current stance a tad hypocritical don't you think?
