The 9 disc set contains the original theatrical release of each of the 4 films, and either a directors cut or special edition of each too, on individual discs. Plus a bonus disc of extras.

I would assume it's the regular versions of the films on the 4 disc set.

have a look here

Looks like it's 5 discs. The standard movies (ok, ok, it's the SE version of Aliens, but others are the theatrical versions).

The directors cut of Alien was only released earlier this year, and thus the only box set I think it's on is the Quadrilogy. The SE's of the other films have not ,as far as I know, been released anywhere else in box-set form.

R1 9 disc quadrilogy 42 quid from DVDSoon in Canada. Might get stung for a bit of import tax and you'll need a multi-region player.

Still umming and ahhing over this one.

Play.com are now doing the 5 disc Legacy for 54.99 or the 9 disc Quadrilogy for 42.99.

How does that work!!! Very tempting though.

The Legacy is discontinued. Marc (Sith waves hand to use mind trick) goto MVC and buy the Quad for 29.99 or at HMV for 34.99.

I have US Alien Trilogy BS from way before it came out over here. Both US and UK Alien Quad Boxsets and HMV exclusive Alien with special Slip Cover which is boootiful.

I wanted the Alien Quad Asia special but it was toooo much

Oh yeah, www.dvdboxoffice.com for all your R1 needs. Nearly always cheaper, free shipping. Even had a Boxset sent DHL (their decision) and I didn't pay extra.

have to say dvdboxoffice rocks. Have used them for years. Bummer is that they are more expensive here (Canada, which I think is where they are based) than the local shops. Real pisser that.

I guess it depends on what you thought of the last two movies.
Personally I thought they were crap, so I'd just get the individual DVDs of the first two.

As in, they made it totally different and therefore good?

I always thought 3 would have made an excellent novel, so perhaps an extended version is worth seeing.

Quite

I was umming and ahhing for months over which box set to buy. Ended up buying Alien and Aliens on special edition 2 for price of 1 from ww.cd-wow.co.uk . Reasoning was I consider 3 & 4 to be rubbish and I know I'd never even watch the films, so why would I want to see extras to understand how they made them so crap? Cost me about £18 for the pair

Sorted

Alien 3 has an extra 30 mins of footage re-inserted into the film to make it back to more what Fincher wanted.

Alien 4 also has extra footage re-inserted. For the record I liked Alien 4.

Hmm bizarre, maybe it's just the southern stores that have it on sale then. I went into mine on Tuesday at it was still cheap.

Those ebay links are Buy it nows. The only differences in R1 and R2 is box design, Pal and NTSC.
