Any council tax experts out there?
We've been renting for the last 6 months, trenancy ended at the end of september. We've been paying council tax monthly and sent them a letter with the last payment with breakdown of what we owed and stating our tenancy was ending end of this month, ie, we weren't paying the entire year as we aren't going to be at the property the entire year.
Got a court summons through yesterday for non payment of council tax and demanding payment for the entire year
Obviously they don't read letters or have people that can read working there. Are there any ts and cs that they have that'll bite me on the 4ss and force me to pay a full years tax even though they've had a letter telling them we won't be there and settling already everything we owe up to the end of this month (so we're even paying a few days extra)
Bunch of w4nkers.
Any advice/info appreciated.
Cheers

Yer ring em up and youll get it sorted. Ive had no problem leaving rented accom before. In fact I just got a rebate without asking (as you pay monthly for 10 months so if your not there the full year then you have overpaid).

As long as you can prove you moved from the property when you said you did, then ring them and youll have no problems.
Could be the landlords fault as he should be paying the CT if its empty.
Do ring them in person though and get it sorted there and then waiting and relying on letters is chancing it a little too much, especially seeing how much post our CT dept goes through in a day!
