Default Question about Gatsos

Hi all,

Forgive my ignorance (hope I don't land in the muppet section for this ), but I've just started a new job and have to drive along a route littered by Gatsos. I've had a thought: If you pass one at or below the sped limit on a dual carrageway/motorway, but someone overtakes you in one of the other lanes and in doing so gets flashed, does the picture indicate who the culprit was? I would hope the answer is

"don't be daft of course it does!"

However, it could be a chance to raise more funds by nailing everyone in the shot!

Cynical? Me? Surely not! Just would very much like to keep my clean licence! I'm a good boy, you know!

That's why there are white lines painted on the road and why it flashes twice. It takes two photos a second apart and they see which car has moved how many white marks between shots.

... or at least that is my understanding. I have been lead to believe that 2 pictures are taken so that cross checks of the speed can be made against the distance markers on the roads (those little lines running perpendicular to the road after the camera). That way if two or more cars are inolved the culprit(s) can be identified.

I await correction!

Gatsos take two pix of the rear of the car, with lines on the road to prove speed. So a clear ID shouldn't be an issue.

But Truvelos, front-facing with an invisible infra-red flash, only take one. This could be more tricky but if there's any doubt I'd have thought you'd get let off.

Richard.
