cool, mines up at the end of the month and one of the main PITA exercises is going along to the post office.

Even better for new cars that have insurance and tax expire on the same day - presumably if DVLA can check directly against the insurance database to check it's been renewed there's no more chasing insurance companies to get the paperwork out in time, and no more snotty cows in Post Offices moaning that they won't accept a cover note

Humm?

should we worry about the fact that we are being asked to enter our vehicle registration number and logbook reference number onto an unsecure website??

At least it's a .gov.uk domain, so the risk is really just in traffic being intercepted on the way to the site. It's a chance I'm willing to take to save the hassle of having my documents scrutinised by a bored jobsworth in a Post Office.

What is the deal with the fines? My mrs needs to tax hers by the end of the month but sent her v5 away 2 weeks ago as we moved address.

Apparently as she doesnt have V5 she has to pay an additional £19 to get her road tax - daylight robbery. Cant the gits check their own database to see if they are updating their own documents?

Thanks,
Simon.

When I got my reminder this month, it came with a special number to type in on the website. That bought up my car details, and they checked my insurance was valid automatically.

I didn't enter any details of my car directly, although I wouldn't have minded if it was a secure site.

Tax came through a couple of days later. Much better than queueing up at a post office for an hour!

Default Just done this

as I forgot to go the post office this morning ...

couple of notes .....

You don't need the reminder with invite - just use your registration and document reference off the V5.

MOT and Insurance docs are checked without you needing to enter any numbers etc....

Comes though in 1st class post in a couple of days, but you are on the licence database instantly if there are any 'issues' in the meantime.

Not seeing a downside at the moment
