Angry Shot at car last niight with 2.2 Air Rifle

Was going to work last night at 18.45 on slip road from M54 to M6 South. Minding my own buisness, only doing 60 MPH , saw some kids on bridge over Motorway, looked about 14/15 years old with what i thought was a stick, anyway i heard a Bang. Thought WTF, must have been lorry having a tyre blow out. Then realised no HGV about. So pulled over onto hardshoulder. Got out and found little ***** had hit my car with what the police say looks like 2.2 air rifle. There was i sitting on the hardshoulder waiting for the police. Guy i was talking to from Police control asked if it was me in white Subaru. I said yes. He said another guy was some 500 metres back up Motorway was stopped looking at panels on his car. Seems the little ***** had hit both mine and his. Anyway it was reported to Police who where Brilliant when they arrived, but alas as they said the little ***** would be well gone by the time the police got up on the bridge. Have enclosed 3 pics of the Damage in this thread . The whole area is nearly 2 in in Diameter. Im realy pixxed about this thing happening, but it could have been alot worse.

SG

2.2 - that's a fecking elephant gun, think you may mean .22 (inch) or 5.56mm is the rough modern equivalent.

That looks nasty chap hope you get it sorted, glad you are OK though

So, let's get this clear: two people were shot at and the best the police could manage was "oh, who ever did it will have run away and hid behind a hedge now so we will not bother doing anything..."

I assume similar law enforcement guidelines will apply to bank robbers "no point sir, they'll be miles away by now" or murderers "body's cold sir, they could be in the pub down the road by now."

Consider that if it had been a police car shot at then it would be headline news with the local Chief Constable telling the press how it was attempted murder of hard working police officers who were only doing their bit for the community. There would be an appeal for cooperation to catch the offenders and I bet within 48 hours they would have someone for it.

Personally I'd be pointing this out down the local station and asking what they were doing about it before I talk to my local MP, the press and anyone else who might listen. An alternative, and equally appealing to the press, headline might be "Police no longer investigate shootings."

Could have been wife and Daughter driving which doesn,t bear thinking about. Such was the impact it nearly caused me to Drop my Mobile, spill my tea, thus making it impossible to read my paper while holding the steering wheel with my knees. lol. Its only metal. it can be repaired, but at the end of the day there was no need for it lazy little *****.

Mine's been shot too, but it was no where near as bad as that.

I saw the yoof take aim with his rifle, then I heard a 'ping', I got a nice ding in my wing......

I nearly wrote the car off trying to catch the ******, but he escaped.

That mark to me, doesnt look like the work of a .22 airarm.

The weapon of choice for bored scumbags around here seems to be very high powered catapults, I believe they are called BlackWidows. Any ****** can buy them, and they do lots of damage when coupled with the right ammo.

They wound leave a mark like that if a ballbearing was used.

Get it sorted, it will repair, and look like new.

Imagine if they shot a speedcamera van. The police would be up in arms. They'd draft in officers from other counties!

That looks like a .22LR impact. I dont think an air gun could do this type of damage, especially as you were moving.

depends on the power of the air-rifle, caliber and the pellet (spelling?) design. .22 is heavier, but not as fast as a .177 but it will do a good bit of damage.

Your speed travelling towards the kids will only increase the damage.

I was very surprised at the power of my air-rifle. Easily puts some serious dents in a stainless steel pot (as in cooking pot) from a good distance.

With the thin scooby panels, I can easily imagine thatsort of damage but would depend on distance.

I don't think that is the impact mark of a .22 air rifle, but having said that without looking close-up I can't be sure.

The location you describe is controlled by Central Motorway Police Group in Birmingham. They should have passed it back to Staffs for the attention of an ARV.

Just imagine the carnage if they'd hit a bus driver in the face.............

Chances are they have done it before - most chavs are creatures of habit. We had someone shooting at a train about a year ago. Silly ****** always did it at the same time from the same place. Got a nasty surprise when we poked an MP5 up his nose

Glad you're alright

A distressing sign of the times I'm afraid - if its not speed traps on bridges its mindless yobbos.

Some little oik threw a stone at my car a couple of years ago. I turned the car round, parked up and gave chase but the little git was obviously used to running away and I couldn't catch him! (not sure what I would have done if I HAD caught him to be honest...)

My brother got hit in the neck by an air pistol fired out of a car in London, and a mate had a brick chucked at his car by a group of pikey kids.

I am always uncomfortable going under bridges when people are standing on them nowadays, there's no telling what they are capable of, especially with cases like that van driver who was killed by a brick dropped off a bridge.

Its a war zone out there!

Thats a definate firearms damage not air arms, no way would an air rifle damage a panel like that at range

I think its unlikely it was a firearm. Possibly rimfire at best, definately not centrefire. Most air rifles that are at the 12ftlbs limit could do that to the panel on a scooby in my opinion. Lets face it, they aren't the thickest of panels. I reckon I could dent my wing by poking it if I tried!

At what distance was the shot taken? I wouldn't be surprised if a decent non FAC rated air rifle could almost go through the panel on a scoob at point blank.

This could be an interesting experiment! Anyone have a spare wing?

I disagree

My .177 would go clean through an industrial sized baked bean tin (with copper pellets) - it had been tweaked slightly (to the legal limit). Fully silenced & scoped

The old steel Prometheus pellets would go through a dustbin with a legal airgun.
