Default Tv HiFi question

I want to use my amp and speakers to play sound from the TV but I can't see how to get it to work.

Currently I have a DVD attached to the TV via scart.

HIFI is completely seperate. I took the connections from the CD player and plugged in to the TV but nothing changed, tried pluging them in to the DVD and again nothing.

Can't see anything I else I can do? Anyone know about this. I probably need to spend a fortune on new stuff.

They are like RCA inputs on a car stereo, just go from the outputs on your tv/dvd to your inputs on your stereo, then select aux on your stereo and the sound will come out lol

What type of connector is the audio output from the TV?

SCART uses different pins for audio in and out, so you can't just use the same cable. You may just need a different one.

test it with the following, buy a cable that has a headphone jack on one end and the standard aux on the other end and plug them in accordingly... every TV I've seen has a headphone jack and hey presto, it will work....

What you have to remember is that SCART is a bus... this means that everything on the lead is connected together...

So if you have a TV, DVD, Video, Stero DigiBox etc... (like me!) you can wire it up so that they all work together. I have a Scart multipoint adaptor (similar to - This

,from which the output goes into the back of the tele. then everything else plugs into this. (including the stereo.)

You can also get a scart to phone adaptor which i use: This

Rubbish. Every signal on a SCART connector is point-to-point and there are separate pins for input and output. There are signalling pins to indicate when a device is active, which multi-way adapters can use to switch between sources, or you can use a manual switch which would be a lot more reliable.

More than likely you just need a cable which connects to the audio OUT pins on the TV SCART connector. Google should quickly reveal which pin is which if you need to make up your own cable or modify one.

exactly... point to point... evrything on pin1 is connected to each other, everything on pin2 is connected etc... thats how you DVD player can have an aux in and TV out... the aux in runs thru the DVD into your TV... exactly the same way as the multipoint adapter above works...

And if you look at my second link, i think you will find the exact cable just described...

I don't have my TV wired to the amp - just the sky box (+ DVD + PS2 etc..). You'll need phono leads from the back of sky (or TV) which'll go into the AUX on the back of the amp.

Watch out on your amp for headphones - if it's switched to that you'll get nowt out of your speakers.

Also try different sources in the AUX on your amp to make sure it's working OK - you could be wiring it up right but your input / outputs might be FUBAR somewhere along the line...

Does anyone use SCART to transmit sound to their amp? and why?

No!

Every device has some pins for INPUT and some pins for OUTPUT. Cables are NOT wired 1 for 1, they cross over - so the output pins on one device are connected to the input pins on the other. Your DVD player has an auxiliary input, on dedicated pins, and can internally switch its dedicated output pins between either the Aux input or DVD playback.

If it were a bus, as you describe, then every device's outputs would be connected together, interfering with each other and producing a garbled picture. The only way that could work would be if only one device at a time produced a signal, and somehow knew to disable its output completely when you wanted to watch something else. Even then the termination would never work out properly so you'd get ghosting on the picture.

Not sure what the connectors are I use.

I disconnected everything so now I just have the ariel going to the TV (and power) and a red and a white in the output and a red and white connector on the amp going in to AUX1. Select Aux1. SOund only comes from the TV.

Is there something on the TV itself I need to change?

Best read up on the TV manual.

Some sets do require that you enable the phono output sockets.

Make doubly sure you are on output phono's on the TV and not phono inputs. I have both on my TV and they are right next to each other.

It's a new one to me. I suppose if you've got a budget or old TV without proper phono out, it may be the only way.

Right - got it. Sort of.

nothing in the manual.

I only have inputs, no outputs on the TV. You'd have thought for £700 you'd get them but apparantly not!

Have you got Sky?

You could use the outputs on the sky box if it has them or if not some Nicam Video's have them if you have one.

You can also buy scart leads that will give you phono outputs or a plug in block that will convert a scart socket to phono's.

Cheers

For £700 you must have speaker phono output on that TV! Check every inch of it and check the manual.

Right. It works using the Video but not DVD?

I am getting a freewiew set top box. Pressumably this won't work either as the only thing I can see different between the DVD and Video is the scart and the freeview thingy will use a scart.

Man they make things complicated!
