Default iPod

Finally decided to order one last night, went for the 20gb version. Theyre offering free engraving on them till september, i thought about have my name on back but i know for a fact theyd spell my name with a K and get my surname totally wrong!!!

Should save my hdd from being filled up with obscene tunes anyway imo!!

Now just need to spend another £20 on a usb2 adapter!

Just got the G4 20GB and it comes with both firewire and usb cable, what adapter do you need as mine works out the box.

Marc - you're getting a 'clickwheel' version also known as G4 (Generation 4), the previous one had the buttons above the clickwheel rather than on it (these are G3 models)

I've been thinking about an iPod, was about to purchase about 2 days before the G4's came out, glad I did not! Personally I'm going to wait for the 60GB model, which will arrive once Toshiba sorts out the drive quality issues, which is, from what I've heard, the only delay in the 60GB iPod.

All being well i should have it by the weekend.

The 20gb holds 5000 songs. 60gb should hold around 15000 then

firewire and usb2 cables came with my mini , I'd expect the G4 to be the same.

Remote is a worthwhile accessory, oh and an ICE:>Link

Just had a read of the manual and if not using firewire you need a hi-power usb 2.0 card in your PC. It will not work with usb 1.0 or low powered usb 2.0 such as found in keyboards or hubs. I am using firewire on my Apple which is said to be better than usb.

R32 tis easy. Just plug a cable into the firewire port, and then into the Ipod. It's not called firewire on your PC, but something like IEEE 1394 bus host controllers.

If your PC has'nt got them, it's easy and cheap to buy a card with four ports.

Matt, I think you could Ebay it at retail if you're quick. They're still pretty rare

Son's Ipod (G3 ) started behaving strangely last night - trying to play but not playing, and none of the buttons worked. Like when your PC totally freezes, and you have to do a hard reboot as Ctrl Alt Del doesn't work.

Eventually he tossed it onto the table in frustration and it turned itself off

Any suggestions for the future?

Don't lob it at tables

Seriously though frozen pods can usually be fixed by holding Menu and Play for 3-5 seconds, this will force the iPod to reset. (In the manual )

now all you have to get is an FM transmitter for it so it can be used in your car (provided you don't already have an MP3 head unit)

Don't forget the FM transmitters are ilegal to use in the UK as they are deemed as a "pirate radio" system. It's OK to own one though as long as you don't use it

Wouldn't be without my 20gig ipod Just upgraded to G4 click wheel one just because I could Anyone after a G3 20gig let me know

The iTrip FM transmitters are ok but when driving round the uk it's a pain having to retune to an empty frequency now and then. Can recommend the inMotion speaker set too - very good if you travel and you can use them as a dock.

Firewire is quicker than USB2 - if getting a FireWire card check that it's compatible with the ipod - sounds odd but some of the cards don't work to clever with the ipod.
