Police involved motorway RTA's

Is there any way I can find out if an RTA occurred on a motorway on a known date, if the police and ambulance service were involved?

Also, is it possible to find out the names of those involved?

Was involved myself in an accident on a dual carriageway 18 months ago. Even though I was the innocent party the police were 100% totally useless. They would give me no info whatsoever on the other (uninsured) party involved quoting the data protection act stopped them from doing this.
