Unhappy Nokia to Laptop via Infrared connectivity problems

Posted in computing..but got no response as of yet

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=353105

Help!

Thought I'd try out this nokia suite and installed the latest version on my laptop (Dell Latitude Cpx) with Win2000 Pro

But I can't get it to communicate with my phone (6100) I've tried other IR nokias with no success (7210) either. Ran all the win2000 updates. No luck

The IR port is activated in the bios, I've tried slow mode and fast mode, various forced com ports. I've reduced the communication speed as suggested in the help.

And it STILL doesn't work

All I can get is it to show a active connection when I send a business card (which doesn't recieve). Otherwise nothing else works.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks I tried that, but the laptop just doesn't "see" anything.

I remember trying it on a mates compaq ages ago and it worked first time. Very odd

IIRC IR is quite troublesome on W2k. There is some german software out there which I used to use - it maps a com port to the infrared port - so you could try and track that down. The other option is to buy a bluetooth dongle - cheap these days.

Nope still won't work

Been sifting through trying various options etc and noticed that the phone is IrDA and the laptop IR is IrCC....is this some type of protocol standard? and are they incompatible? As thats the only thing I can thing of.

Any ideas?

I used to have a CPX J650 and it worked for me. Seem to remember it being fiddly to set up though

I have a dell latitude D400 and i cant get the IR to connect to any mobile, even though it says it is working.

I bought a USB IR gismo, installed it and it now works!! £9.00 on e-bay...!
