find yourself a specialist Personal Injury solicitors, not a claims management service.
Look for one that is a member of APIL.
Start recording now all instances of pain and when/where it causes you pain/distress. Record all costs associated with anything that you need to do because of this pain - pyshio, taxis, time off etc.
Once you find a solicitor that you're happy with, you will be asked to sign a no win - no fee type arrangement with them. As liability is not an issue here (you can claim off the cars that hit you or failing that from the taxi-driver for not keeping you safe) this won't be a problem. If (when) you win your case, the costs of the solicitor (+ maybe a bonus) will be paid for by the other side. I think the initial insurance cost of this is like £80 and you might have to pay for any medical reports and police reports, but again, this will all be recovered upon settlement.
Wifey is an APIL panel member & does this for a living, so any questions, PM me & I'll ask her.
Hope you feel better soon & I suggest a visit to a chiropractor [sp?], the costs for which are recoverable, as they can do wonderful things to a cricked neck. Worth investigating anyhow.

Statistics actually prove that the so called "claims culture" is not actually an increasing phenonomen, rather that the number of PI claims in the last few years has gradually decreased. So it is not the likes of unfortunate people like pum that is increasing insurance premiums.
Although you hear in the Sun & likewise of outrageous sounding claims, the service actually exists to compensate people for genuine loss. Get t-boned by a drunk driver, become a paraplegic and you'll be the first person to be ringing the nearest solicitor for compensation. Then hopefully your solicitor will be able to come to an arrangement (fight your corner) to gain compensation so that you can "possibly" have the same standard of life as you had before you were injured and failing that, be in a position to pay for the best care available. Saying all that, I trust it never happens but through no fault of his own, pum here is in a great deal of pain and he is suffering loss, so it is only reasonable that he receive some compensation to try & make up for it.
I was knocked off my motorbike by some idiot a few years back - not at all my fault. Badly damaged my shoulder, such that it'll never be right again. I got some compensation for that but it never fully accounts for the mornings when I wake up in pain or the times I can't do all the things I used to because of the injury. I'd happily have forgone the compensation to wind back the clock but I can't.

If you are a passenger then you claim on the back of the driver's insurance, so you'll need to get the taxi firm to give you the details of the driver so you can contact him/her. When they fill in their claim there's a section marked "any passengers?" or whatever. They then add your details, whereupon the insurers should contact you (or more likely, their appointed solicitors will). This was certainly how it was done for a my whiplash when a passenger in a friend's car that was rear-ended.

What annoys me is those people that have a 'bump' and then suddenly develop a bad neck a few days later when they realise that they could be quids in.
