Haven't been paid
The whole of our company hasn't been paid today. What steps should we take?

Find out why. There might be an innocent explanation, though TBH it usually signals financial difficulties.
Post what their reasons are, then can advise further....

If we hot-foot it out the door, that's what they want! No redundancy payments to pay! They'd be rubbing their hands together!

They are likely to be in breach of contract

No excuses for this then. It sounds like a serious cashflow problem.
Are there any other creditors sniffing around? VAT? Revenue?

OK, a bit more information is required. Basically they have up until the "last" day of the month to pay us. Usually it is in first thing on the last working day of the month. So realistically, we could be paid by mid night tonight and theyve still kept their end of the bargain.

Keep tabs on it, then be ready for the receivers to walk in. Am I being negative?

The last company I worked for went under, luckily it was small enough so we could pick up on the warning signs way before it happened.
Has anything happened or has anybody said anything previously that would make you think the company is in financial difficulties? In my experience once a company gets into financial problems things are just going to get worse and worse. I left my last company after the bailiffs turned up one afternoon but the company still managed to struggle on for another 6 months or so before it finally went under. There was only one full time member of staff employed at this point and unfortunately he never got paid for his last month there.
I was lucky as I had a brand new Company laptop when I left which I held onto until I had received my last months money. My advice if you have access to anything like this is to take it home with you and not bring it back until you get paid.
What has everybody else said about you all not getting paid and what are the chances of you getting this money in the next few days.
You have two choices really, cut your losses and walk out now or stay on in the hope that you will get paid the money in the near future. Either way I would start looking for another job today.

Have you asked a direct questions as to where your pay is ? Have you received a direct answer ? Wait until Moday then down tools if the issue is not resolved. Would not advise removing any company property as they may have grounds for dismissal if you are caught.
Good luck

We have been in trouble for a while, the signs have all been there. Today was the last straw.

One of the good things about being part of the EU is now employees come top of the list of people to get paid, even in front of HM Customs & Excise and the Taxman. So if they do have some money and do go under you and your fellow employees will get first bite of the pie.

http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/redundancy.htm is the official info from the DTI - I found it useful a few years back. If the company can't pay wages, redundancy etc, the DTI will but it was capped when I had to claim.

I'm not due any redundancy anyway, neither are a few of my colleagues. I need my job though, and to walk out now would be financial suicide for me and them.

Clare, there is still a small chance the money could go in later today.
One month last year my salary had not gone through first thing as normal.
A few phonecalls to the bank from the Financial Director (as it was his error) and the money was in the account by late afternoon.
I really hope your situation is this simple.
Be brave and ask the F.D. when you are going to be paid.

Yes, I did mean my colleagues. In our department, we've all been here less than 2 years, even with a month's notice.
