Default Number Plates

Just been on Fancy Plates website after a recommendation. Nice site if your after some new plates to tidy up your motor. Just curious as to what the law says. Are you legal if you stick to standard uk font and spacing ? I was looking to have a border (scotland or subaru) and maybe some text at the bottom. (nothing chav like, just some subaru related text). Would this take me outside the law for MOT purposes ?

AFAIK anything other than a national/EU emblem is illegal. As long as the border and any text is outside the required border they should be OK.

Check on DVLA Current Requirements for Display of Number Plates

Appreciate the link. After reading I gather that Scotland on the left of the plate would be ok but subaru wouldnt. Not entirely sure anout the border or some text at the bottom. Any cops out there ? Wht would you do if a car had a plate with Official size, font etc text with a border and maybe a Subaru badge at the left of the border ?

I drove mine for 13 months, and it's still kicking about 6 months after I sold it. Has a Subaru logo on the left, where the GB / SCO / whatever should be, and not one single pull for it (or anything else, for what it's worth ) I would say that as long as the font and spacing are okay, then the law don't really give a monkey's as to what's on the rest of the plate. You would have to get a real **** of a copper to make an issue out of it, and I'm sure there's none of them about

Why bother.
Surely it gives the police licence to stop you if they choose to.
Without it you actually have to be breaking the law before you get in trouble.

It's a 4" x 2" sticker FFS!!!

Like they need an excuse to pull anyone!!

The last time I got stopped was by an unmarked car for 'not watching your speed'. I passed them at 55 in a 60, knowing full well that there were a couple of occifers in the car (driver had a dayglo jacket on, his boyfriend had body armour). They were baiting me, pure and simple, driving at 35MPH, having had a good gawp at me before pulling out in front of me at a give way junction. Of course, if they had real criminals to catch...

Rant over.

BTW, they thought my number plate was fine...(correct font & size-ish, but dubious spacing)
