**IMPORTANT** Check your Trackstar now
Just on the off chance I thought I'd ring Trackstar this morning just to check if the system is working OK. Well, it was'nt and RAC trackstar don't know when it stopped working either. THey btold me it was up to my dealer to "maintain the system and check it's OK which I told them was total Bollox as I pay them the subs to use their tracking system. Got a manager phoning back this afternoon as I am NOT happy with the situation and want some money refunded as Ive poaid for a service that I have not been getting.
There are also insurance implications if the system is not working as well.
So I suggest anyone with an RAC Trackstar device phones them ASAP to see if their system is operational.
Chip.

ours in currently in the attic so I think the attic is quite safe However, totally agree with getting it checked - we had ours done every so often as part of the t&cs on the insurance was having a tracker

This topic comes up again and again. Trackstar seem to be absolutely terrible.
When I had my scoob I phoned them up and asked them where my car was (it was on the drive). Their first guess was 100 miles out, 7 hours later they finally managed to get it right. No refund though as you have to prove how long it hasn't been working for.

I got them to check my old STi 02 and that was faulty too, it required a new black box fitting.
Seems like a pretty high failure rate to me, get on the phone to them and get yours tested.

As Kev turbo said, this subject keeps appearing.
When is a test a test? All these trackers appear to be hit and miss.
You can't keep testing they are working in the real world. You rely on paying for a service.
What chance have you got when the service provider isn't aware of it's status till you ask for a test?
Absolute rip-off if you ask me.

FWIW, the NavTrak Pro-active on my Scooby was always spot on.
I remember TSL moved it from one ramp to another in their workshop (a distance of about 5 metres) without disarming it. I had a call within a couple of minutes asking if my car was moving

You need to get any tracker checked every 6 months IMHO.
My scoob was maintained by very well known (famous) scoob tuners in the midlands and essex (and nowhere else) - and guess what somebody had "prepped" my car ready to be stolen by bypassing the tracker.. and to do that they had to have had they keyfob for the alarm/immob and blackjax..
As I had taken my car to both dealers prior to the check I have no way of knowing which one did it

Rang them tonight - "Oh dear we can't seem to find your car, but the satellite is playing up again. We'll ring you back". WTF do they mean; the satellite is playing up again??
They rang back while I was in the pub - "Yes we've found your car (it was in the garage)".
Not impressed really, as if the car goes walkies I don't want to hear that they can't find it. Especially considering how much we have to pay for the things.
And yes, there are insurance implications. My neighbour is an underwriter and has told me that if the tracking device ain't working, you can forget a payout

I called to check mine (it's not Trackstar) and was told the car was on the motorway, which came as a bit of a surprise - especially as I could see the car out of the window. On further investigation, it turned out the car was showing as being in the middle of a field and the motorway just happened to be the nearest road - because my entire village is missing off their street map

All this RAC Trackstar, Tracker info is rather worrying. I’ve just arranged a free check up of my Tracker to make sure its still working. Especially as Cowboys seem to fit these things.
For those of you with RAC Trackstar, I would be even more worried. Even the MD is a Cowboy as I had the unfortunate opportunity of dealing with him a couple of years ago after a bodged fitting of one of their units. Where my car was damaged in several places during the fitting. I wasn’t at all happy with the fitters or the companys attitude. And my letters etc were met with disdain from the MD himself.
So I gave them an ultimatum, pay up for a new dash board or I’ll send the unit back in a box. They had already tried to patch it up, but it wasn't a perfect job, and i wasn't having any of it. I hadn’t paid anything at that point so it was up to him. Nothing materialised so I took the unit out. And this is where it gets even more worrying. The way it was fitted would be laughable, if you didn’t rely so much in this device. Wires not soldered, and badly connected, the unit dangling from tie wraps around the heating pipes under the dashboard. Excess cabling that should have been trimmed stuff in tight spaces. The list goes on.
I can safely say the unit would not have lasted very long.
I sent it all back, and never heard from them again.

Guys, lately it seems that the majority of our cars that were nicked and have been fitted with a tracking device have vanished without a trace.
Is it worth conducting a poll on scoobynet to establish some facts ?
* Car stolen with tracking device and recovered
* Car stolen with tracking device and not recovered
* Car stolen without tracking device and recovered
* Car stolen without tracking device and not recovered
It just seems that they are not worth the money anymore, several major insurance companies no longer require tracking devices to be fitted, and since they are factory fit on many cars they are very easily disabled.
This technology is now many years old, I can remember the good old days when they would tell us that 96% of vehicles with these devices fitted were recovered but that percentage does seem a tad optimistic judging by current scoobynet posts.

I've just bought a very nickable car that already has a Tracker on it.
Cost to register and subscribe to Tracker ? £139 for the year.
Insurance discount for having a Tracker ? £20
I know some insurers insist on a Tracker, but then many only offer tiny discounts for having one. If they really were that good, I think insurance companies would offer slightly better discounts.
Just my 2p, but I would have to doubt the value of a Tracker.
Cheers
