Default best device to sound alarm when car hits, say 35mph ?

I'm starting to get a little worried about all the mobile cameras kicking about where I live. I had a clean licence 12 months ago and now find myself with 6 points for doing 37mph, in a 30 zone etc...

Now before all the happy clappers come and start telling me not to drive at 37mph, all I'd really like to know is...

Is there some kind of simple device that requires little or no installation that will sound an audible alarm inside the car when the vehicle is travelling at a pre-set speed ?

eg. I want an alarm to sound whenever the car hits 35mph

Ideally something that just plugs into the cigarette lighter and sits on the dash.

If you're a competent driver and drive quite often, you should have a feel for your speed anyway.....both engine noise, being aware of your surroundings (and how fast they're disappearing).

Also, what if your route takes you through a mix of 30/40/50/60/70 zones?

You shouldn't need such a device really....just engage your brain.

Citroen Picasso's have them too

I had one as a hire car for a day, and was bored driving, so I set the limit @ 30mph, whilst on the motorway

in the end I did get annoyed with the alarm going off

imlach, a lot of people on scoobynet have a name for people like you - perhaps you should re-read my question again.

beemerboy, my last m3 (e36) had a trip computer with just the function I needed - but the new one doesn't - gutted

petem95, will check the combo you recommend

cheers all!

Just a sensible bit of advice, that's all....

What if your wonderful beeper fails, or isn't plugged in correctly, or it is set to 40mph, but you are in a 30mph zone - you may begin to rely on your "beeper" too much, and equate non-beeping to being within the correct limit.

Which is why brain is best.

The Picasso I borrowed for work once (HORRIBLE car!), had a LCD display with the speed etc and when I accidentally hit 71mph, it proceeded to intermittantly (IE, every 3 seconds) admonish my discraceful behaviour, by flashing "OVERSPEED WARNING!"

Perhaps if the stupid ******* designers has considered putting the speedometer in front of the driver, instead of halfway across the cabin, I wouldn't have broken the limit in the first place!

PMSL, quality

Yeah I found that a little distracting, I almost felt obliged to sit across both seats

Did you know you could set the speed alarm to whatever you wanted, I did find it amusing at first, 30 for motorways, and 10 for normal roads
