Default Bluddy ebay...

Ebay have just cancelled an auction of mine stating that I cannot charge a 4% surcharge despite their policy saying this OK for Paypal!

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policie...urcharges.html

Grrrrrr. I'll be really annoyed if they have lost me the sale as the seats were going well!

Think it says you can't charge for Paypal

1. Electronic Money Services: Sellers who accept electronic money services as a means of payment for an item purchased on eBay, may not impose a surcharge.

Electronic money services include, but are not limited to, services such as PayPal, Nochex, FastPay or Moneybookers.

Stupid rule. I don't charge for buyers using Paypal but I don't see why I can't charge if they want to use a CC - which costs me an extra 4%.

Oh well, I'll stop accepting CC payments via paypal then.

Thumbs down

Hardly makes you want to list Paypal as an option

I insist on cheques only.

Just downgraded by Palpal account to a personal one so no-one can send me CC payments any more. Seems silly really. For small items I usually accept the payment anyway but on a £200 set of seats I'm not giving away £5 as easy as that.

Apparently Paypal are a bit annoyed that they are not longer a free way to send money and hence the clamp down on surcharges.

eBay/ PayPal sent out emails and info links a while back about this, I'm pretty annoyed too because on the last few sales I've done, I lost out financially due to the charges levied by PayPal.
I guess the answer is to make sure you set a good reserve price to include all charges. Not fair but can't see any other way around it.

I don't mind charges - I jsut don't see why I can't ask the buyer to pay for them if:

1) They chose to use a CC
2) I've made it blatantly obvious that I wish to charge 4%
3) If I was processing payment via swipe machine (e.g. in a shop) I'd be entitled to charge extra!

As far as I can see Paypal/Ebay just shot themselves in the foot.

More likely they don't care about the casual sellers anymore as this won't effect the hardcore Ebay traders.

Try one of the free UK auction websites. They don't seem bothered about sellers charging buyers for using paypal.

I add the paypal charge usually into the cost of the item as so many people pay via paypal now. I also use natwests online paym, ent tool or nochex as they are cheaper than paypal. It depends on the profit you are making in terms of margin on the items you sell, some i build in the surcharge to and others i dont..

It is a stupid thing to do though, i think it will lower the number of people using paypal now..

You can't do it. End of story. Don't accept paypal if it gets up your nose so much

Offer people a 2.5% discount if they pay using some form other than Paypal, or just take it on the chin as a cost of doing business through ebay.

WIth paypal, it'll only be a matter of time before you get a chargeback against you and you'll find that, unless you've got seller protection on the transaction, there's next to **** all you can do about it.

Cheers,
nick.

Chilled out now.

Very annoying when you see an auction that you're already happy with the price on (and still has 7 days to go!) cancelled.

Still back to the beginning I guess.

Would have been more sensible IMHO to hav emailed me to say your listing contravenes for this reason please edit description.

Hopefully the bidders will come back - I know some of them were from here anyway

Just checked this as I have my car for sale on there

The fees have changed too unless I'm mistaken?
Withdrawing Funds

What are there fees to withdraw funds from my PayPal account to my bank account?

There is a £0.25 GBP fee to withdraw £49.99 GBP or less and deposit it in your UK bank account. Withdrawals of £50.00 GBP or more are free. For more about withdrawal fees for bank accounts, visit our Fee Page.

if you downgrade to a personal paypal account it will automatically bounce any CC payments anyway. You can only downgrade once though.

Found the link buried in the account details and have now downgraded. Phew! Thanks for that.

i would rather paypal than other forms of payment, its instant and a few quid charges is nothing, i get more than i expect for things on ebay anyway, so a to pay a bit commission for an instant payment is no problem to me, i prefer it to cheques as people send a cheque and then a day later say "when will the item be delivered" and again and again until finally the cheque has cleared!

I'm registered with Nochex and Paypal. I prefer paypal payment as well because it's a lot less hassle, a few quid commission is no biggy. As already said, cheques are a pain. When you include the time taken to get down to the bank to deposit a cheque and then wait for it to clear etc., are you saving much?

One thing I did notice today - I was putting up a commercial machine for a mate of mine and he wanted a £5000 reserve set. I did this with a 99p start and the entry fee was calculated at over £100!!

Well my re-listed item is already back up to £185 so it's not too bad.
