Home Cinema advice needed
Got a couple of hundred quid burning a hole in my shrapnel jar, and going to spend it on a new "toy" but here's my dilemma...
At present I have no video, and I don't intend buying one but I'm stuck between getting Sky+ or a dvd recorder. A new dvd needs to be multi-region, and I'm looking at the sony rdr-gx3 or possibly gx7 if I add to the fund a little and can find one cheap enough. I should then be able to either a: keep dvdin bedroom or b: flog to go towards sky+.
current dvd is a pioneer 717.
which should i get then - sky+ or the dvd?
also - can you dump stuff of the sky+ hdd onto dvd?
To further complicate matters, I'm wondering how far off the dual layer dvd recorders are and whether its worth waiting.

SKY+ is brilliant. Massively kids and wife-friendly
The manual says you can copy to VHS, fairly pointless for a digital service.
I am sure someone must have a hack or work-around to record to HDD or DVD.
The main advantage of SKY+ is the EPG as you can set it so easily and record 2 progs at once, etc. Wouldn't want to be without it now we have had it for 1 year+

Go for Sky Plus now and hang on for the DVD upgrade till the dual-layer recorders are released. If you really must have a DVD upgrade there's a new slew of VCR/DVD combis on the way which let you transfer old VHS tapes onto DVD-RW and vice-versa, but as previously mentioned dual-layer will probably eclipse these too. Also there are DVD recorders with built in hard drives which look pretty handy, but probably not as useful as Sky+

Sky+ deffo..... can't live without it now. We treated ourselves for Crimbo last year and its an absolute dream. Specially the pause live Tv show option, soooooo useful for when those who know no better, phone you in the middle of a favourite prog.
