Congratulations you must be proud as punch.
I remember when my brother did his passing-out parade years ago and it was really hot. The term passing-out was apparent literally as numerous lads kept fainting in the heat. Then to add insult to injury they were taken to one side, sorted out, shouted at by the NCO and then put back in line. Pretty harsh from where I was standing.
Needless to say my bro was fine as he's a double 'ard b***ard

Well done,
I use to be in the Air cadet corps. I had some many amazing times, army training, running up snowdon, flying, DOE awards, shooting at gun ranges, abasailing.
There is so much to do and its all basically free. I used to love the coprs but when I got older I found it really difficult to give 2 evenings a week and then every weekend to the corps so I left.
He has made a wise move joiing the corps. Does he have any intention of joing the RAF or is it just for fun?

I had loads of fun too until I found the pub when I was 17. Managed to get my Flying Scholarship badge too - there weren't many of those about either, good pose value
Doing aerobatics in a Chipmunk after passing my PPL - priceless. Bloody hell those stage rolls are more difficult than they look!

Flight Sgt, 6th Form Scholarship, Flying Scholarship, Gliding, Shooting, Adventure training all in the CCF (school version of ATC)
The Tax payer was *very* good to me and I enjoyed every minute. Right up until I went back to my school local 5 years after leaving and some bloke towered over me and reminded me I used to make him to press-ups as spotty 13 year old. I bought him a pint thought and avoided reprisals

'The first time I went to the RAF caddets they had a mass debating session (oh er) about wooftahs in the fources.
FIRST AND LAST TIME I WENT!'
Funny u should say that. Our skool most of us joined the army and left the 'flyboys' to ponce around. Even though my dad was an raf pilot i never wanted to join up. They're uniform was too camp

They're uniform
But, ahhh those trousers. Fond memories. not.
We used to enjoy watching the Army section doing Drill while we spent the afternoon being given joyrides in Chipmunks. made the sub-standard uniform all the more bearable .

Thx's guys for the replies, and yes very pround of him, No.1 son is also away doing his 6mths training at Catterick, he will be passing out next Friday so more pic's on the way from that
2 down 2 to go
Yes he want's to be a pilot (but doesn't everyone) but if not he wants to follow in his now departed grandad's shoe's who was an armourment technician (sp) based in Saudi, and for ppl like me who didn't have a clue he put the bits in the bombs that made em go bang well that's how he explianed it to the kids anyhow

Was also in the CCF at school. Pity other people thought it was camp- not many places you can do chipmunk aerobatics for free Did them with my dad as well who flies in the reserve.
Spoke to him last night as he was supposed to be doing a weeks camp. However the plane they fly- the grob- is grounded due to a blade coming off a prop while plane was doing aeros with student. The vibration in the plane made the piolts fillings come out and the canopy come off Managed to land safely though- just feel sorry for the kids who are missing out flying at the moment.

I used to go to cadets, but I had to give it up before I could get very far. But for the short time I was there I literally had a blast. Going to the local RAF base and being given a 7.62mm rifle and 5000 rounds was a day my shoulder remembers, then there was the camps, gliding etc etc.
Congrats for your lad, the boy's done well.......

Well if he wants to be a pilot then he is in the right place.
The RAF take highly to Air Training Corps cadets. I was taxing a plane to the start of the run way as a Concorde landed. I must have been about the wing span just about 20 metres from the engines , the noise was shocking!!
