Washing machine warranty
Not very exciting topic I know........
Don't normally bother with warranties, just tend to take my chance. If things last a year they will tend to last for ten
We do give the washing machine some stick though (3 adults + 1 baby) so I thought I would get it covered for peace of mind. Quote for 4 years is £200 I only paid £230 for it in the first place.
It is an Indesit 1600, are these normally reliable? What are typical repair costs on this type?
What do you recon I should do:-
A) get warranty.
B) stick £200 quid in account and get new one if it breaks.
C) spend the money on the car, and get wifey to wash clothes in the bath?

Option B is best.
I never buy warranties on electrical goods - as shown here, they usually cost the same as the machine itself. You have a 1 yr warranty anyway, and as with most electrical equipment, it's either going to fail in the first few weeks/months, or a long time after.
Also, a repair using a local repairman will usually be a lot less than £200.
I'd take the risk.

C) but don't forget to wash baby as well
I purchase with a debit card that gives you an extra 2 years free warranty if you telephone and register.
The only certain thing (like death and taxes) is that it will break down the day after the warranty expires. DL

Call up the large insurers direct and get quotes. Norwich Union and Direct Line do monthly policies covering all your household electrical stuff (including white goods) as long as it's under a certain age (8 years or something).
Also you can buy a Bosch decent spec washing machine for just under £300 anyway, quote seems too high to me.

We had an Ariston washing machine bought for us as a wedding gift many years ago. It came with 12 months gaurentee. You guessed it, it fooked up big time 13 months later and we had no recourse
Since then i've tried to buy quality instead of sh1te plus extended warrenty. Always best to pay that bit more for the quality and i think you are right, if a Quality product ***** up it will be in the first year
I would look to buy a quality washing machine and put the extra saved into the Scooby fund
