Question passport thief

My g/f is having trouble with her ex. He has possession of her passport and has previously refused to hand it over. Have sent a letter recently requesting it, but apparently he denies all knowledge of even having the passport now.

Does anybody know of any law he may be breaking, or is it a civil matter to be taken up in small claims court for example? As the passport replacement will not be cheap, and besides, its the principal of the matter. Should I report it stolen and give the ex's address?

He is a traffic cop by the way

Whether it is illegal or not, report him anyway to annoy the ****** because he's a traffic cop!

Why not just report it as stolen/lost and apply for a replacement?

Report it to the police as stolen and tell them who stole it - some desk coppers don't like traffic so maybe you'll get lucky.

Then get a new one from the passport office.

Then send the **** a postcard from your chosen holiday destination.

Realistically I'd have thought that replacing it is only about £40 plus the hassle. Way less than any lawyers or court fees. If he threw it in the bin when annoyed, what are you going to do about it?

Of course, I'd never condone wiring up an illegal immigrant then getting them to knock on his door and offer him £500 quid for it.

V you need to tell the police about it ie report it stolen and also mention who has it explain the circumstances etc etc
You may get lucky and they do something about it. Like has been said before you need to order a new one
still cheaper and faster than waiting for him to give it you back or going through court etc
good luck

Apparently he said at the time that he wouldn't give the passport back unless/until they resumed a relationship. It'll cost approx £45 to renew the passport, but it's more of a principal.

Go round and nut the guy. He needs talking to.

If you do report it to the police, just make sure you don't tell them that he is a copper to, just give the name and address.

Been down this road with my sister's ex who was witholding some of her property. Police weren't interested so we retrieved the property by force.
