Holiday euro's
#2
The best/cheapest way by far to get foreign currency is to take your Switch card with you and draw money out in say 400 Euro lots, as and when you need it. This way, you get the best, most accurate exchange rate (not the stupidly inflated money shop ones) plus you only pay a 2.50 E charge to withdraw it per transaction.
I have always found this the most convenient as, as well as getting the best rate, you're not worried about carrying large sums of money around or leaving it in your hotel to be nicked!
Have a good holiday!

Yeah, thats what I was considering. Need to get some cash though for taxi from the airport. Staying in a private apartment which is like fort knox so not worried about security... Am I right in thinking UK airports now have Euro vending cash machines?

Not sure about the vending machines, but you will ALWAYS find several cash points at any airport anyhow, before you take your taxi. I have never found a cashpoint in France/Spain/Switzerland/Belgium that didn't have the Maestro (Switch) symbol, so you'll be fine.

Used a cash machine in tenerife last week, using my HSBC cash card and never got charged anything at all just a straight conversion, which was 0.05 Euro better than the best rate being offered out there

I used Travelex at the airport on the way out as they were cheaper than the post office by far. I wasn't too worried about changing any back to sterling so didnt bother with the gauranteed buy back scheme. As it happens we needed to pull some money out while we were there (Mallorca) and I used my Barclay card although i cant remember what the fee was, but it wasnt a lot.
