My study at home is connected via VPN to the office. The only day in the last year or so I haven't been into the office through illness I still did a full days work from home..... AND felt guilty about not going in!
Damn my conscience......

im good now.. but in my last job i used to take sickies left and right. the job sucked *** tho.. there was never anything for me to do. often i wouldnt even bother calling in.. and nobody would even notice that i wasnt there. man i hated that ****.
i think companies would do better to allow people to have say 5 "can't be assed" days.. where u can just call in and say "cant be bothered to come in today". at least then they can PLAN that people will be off at some point. and i doubt as many people would take sickies then. it would also serve to improve morale and to be realistic (as everyone can't be assed some time or another).

Ive always suggested that you get a bonus for taking zero or a low number of sick days a year. Apparently its unethical though as you are discriminating against people who are genuinely ill. Why I ask as they arent losing money, but people who had no sick days are being rewarded for the extra work they have done.

but take two people who are sick. one comes into work and does some work.. but barely nothing. the other stays at home and gets better.
the next day/week/whatever, the first guy is still sick and not working properly as he hasnt slept it off (he's been at work getting paid more).. and also probably still infecting the whole office.. and the second guy is back on form, working at 100% and better.
you've just rewarded the first guy.

I hate it when people come into work with sickness and cold/flu bugs, stay at home is the best option.
I had never had club note in 19years of work until 8 weeks ago.
I've been off the last 8 weeks and just got another note for another 4 weeks.
Looks like I'm making up for all those years now.

Edited to add...
The news story is nothing new to my line of work. We have our own 24hr medical centre that has a permanant full time registered Sister employed.
She knows every scam going so you can't get much by her.

I'm on a sickie as well, but am on week 10. 2 prolapsed discs and a damaged 3rd. Just as well I get 6 months full pay.
Mental note to all, don't try changing your antiroll bar bushes on your own. I started it and managed to get one done, then twisted/ turned under the car to move a wheel and bingo.
And to all of you wondering yes it did hurt like ****.
