Lawnmower around the £100 mark?
Any suggestions? Have got a £50 voucher for Argos so would prefer to get it from there.
I like the idea of a petrol one because a) no cable to watch out for and b) the tim taylor (home improvements) aaaaaar effect.
Argos sell a McCulloch for £100 with a 3.5hp Briggs and Stratton engine or £140 for one that is self propelled. Not too bothered on the self propelled front as garden isnt massive.
Cheers,
Simon.

Remember, a petrol engine requires maintenance on a semi-regular basis.
An electric motor doesn't require quite the same amount of attention.
Saying that, if you were to buy a really good petrol mower, it should last a long long time....

Remember, Petrols are delivered without oil (or only very little in there )
Electrics although generally maintenance free do require some maintenace - cleaning grass off air vents to prevent motor overheating is critical for it's life span, and then there's blade sharpening.
Petrols only one real extra thing...oil change, 1 litre of oil, adjustable spanner and an old dog dish, once every year (and after first 10 hours of running). Oh, and washing the air filter in petrol (if it's sponge)
Carburettors are non adjustable these days (due to emission regs). You may need to remove the clean float chamber if it's got water in the petrol (can happen after a lay-up over winter) - this is not the mowers fault, talk to your petrol station about the crap they have in their storage tanks! You may need to change the spark plug after 5 odd years.
1 thing to watch out for, is the frame/chassis - is it steel or plastic? Plastic is fine, does break if abused, and susceptable to going brittle from UV light.
Metal - rust, clean off grass from underneath at the end of the year, remove all loose paint, and hammerite it. Do that every year and it'll last almost forever. Just a note...if it's petrol and you tip it up to clean, tip it on to the opposite side of the oil breather, otherwise it'll leak oil out everywhere!
