Audio cabling (PA system) question
Got a telephone switch at a factory site.
You can use an extension from the system as a tanoy port for broadcasting over a PA system ie in a factory.
You have a little widget that takes an RJ45 cable and turns it into a 3.5mm jack so you can plug it into a lead to an amp.
Problem is the output is very quiet. If you turn the amp up to full volume on that channel, it might register one LED on the channel. The amp that feeds the speakers is at least 60m (of CAT5) away from the telephone switch. Does audio degrade that much over this sort of distnce? CAT5 is four pairs and the cable in question is probably unshielded.
TIA,
Chris

if ive understood you right youre basically plugging a mic input into an amp. mic inputs are a lot quieter than typical line level inputs such as a cd player etc and so will need boosting. Does the amp have a phono stage? cable being 60 meters wont help though. If i havent understood you right mock me on the next post

the PABX is more than likely to be operating at 600ohms. you'll probably find that the amp etc is using 8ohms and this will be where your problem lies....
is the whole of your cabling CAT5 (on the pbx) or do u have a patch panel?
there are special types of speakers u can get to connect to the pbx for this type of application
