Window opening restrictors?
Hi,
Thought this was more appropriate here than DIY but the mods. *may* have something to say about that ... :-)
Just got double glazing and need to get some restrictors to stop them opening when unlocked. The DG company could do ones that stopped little kissies crawling out (handy as wife about to drop ....) BUT we have a cat that isn't allowed out and need to restrict them to about an inch or two. The windows have friction sliders but they won't tighten enough to stop the cat ....
Anyone any ideas about where to get them, if at all?
Cheers
Dave

If the windows work on sliding guides, then it's just simply a case of drilling a hole in the track on either side and placing a short self tapping screw in...the slider then hits the screw thus preventing the window opening further.
But, several problems here:
1) It may invalidate the guarantee for the windows.
2) You have to remove the window to drill and put the screws in. As where the screw needs to be will be impossible to get at with the window in position - unless you fully open it...then you won't be able to shut it!!
3) Fire risks. You never know, you may actually want to jump out of a open window rather than burn to death.

The windows should have 3 positions anyway m8
1.closed
2.vent
3.open
Check the locking plate 0n the side or btm it should be a rectangle with 2 grooves in it that the bolt slides into, groove 1 is shut and 2 is vent

Ali-B: yep, screwing things into the frame will invalidate the warrenty!
P@ul: yep there is the *vent* position. BUT the window isn't really open at this point - I want to open as much as possible without letting the cat out. You can see why with this heat - I'm not so bothered but the wife is about to pass out with it due to the fact she is about to drop any day ...

Do what ive done m8 and invest £10 in a 12" fan, stick it on full blast osolating and bobs yer uncle
If you really wanna go the other route i would tie string to the handle and loop it threw the latch on the frame job done!
