speed camera van-answer needed?
on a speed camera van-how many camera's do they have inside and what direction do they point-do they only point them out of back of van or do they point em out of front window as well-need answer?

we have em everywhere in northants. they point out of which ever window they want, and in which ever direction they want. really difficult to tell! although most times they are usually pointing out of the back with the doors open and the orange flashers on.
worse one i have seen is over J15 on the M1 looking through side windows on the far side of the bridge, picking speeders up like theres no tomorrow. although these only appear at the end of the month when they need to increase figures...

Weren't driving through knutsford today were you by any chance? There was a 'safety van' parked up in the 30 zone before the main lights, camera was pointing out the rear doors (or rather a small hatch in one of the rear doors). No camera pointing forwards on that particular van, as far as I could see, and I was only doing 30 past it so got a good opportunity to take a look. Normal practice is rear or side doors, side doors if parked on bridge.

The ones around here use the rear windows or through the open side door. Would the camera/laser work through the front screen?

Do the vans *have* to be marked up with police stripes and "safety enforcement" or whatever? I approched a van on Friday that had both rear doors fully open so there was no warning that it was a camera van until I saw the equipment inside.

Saw one just outside Warwick last week with a specially made fascia built into the side of the van, through which the camera and detection equipment pointed. Very neat job, and difficult to miss.
Believe you'll find that most vans only have one set of equipment, due to the fact that the operator has to sit there monitoring them. I also believe (although my information may not be current) that the most commonly used devices won't work reliably through glass, as it defracts and diffuses the laser beam. Thus, it's unlikely that you would have been "got" from a vehicle facing you from the front.

police vans usually use the back to point the camera but also use the sides and front. Also no they don't have to be marked vehicles and can be plain white. It is also to do with the area they are in and if there was a speed caution sign saying patrolled in that area.
