Cost of living in Australia/NZ
Posted as someone might know (calling Chelle? )
Contemplating moving out to Aussie/NZ for a coupla years as I've worked in NZ two years ago and I have contract work to go to (with the same company as I made a good impression) again once/if I give the nod.
The costs I'd like to know is:
Renting a Flat/House. Nothing massive but nice area nearish (5 miles) city centre (work will most likely be Sydney/Melbourne/Auckland etc.)
Leasing a car. Will have to be something good Monaro, Z4, S2000, Porsche type cars.
Given the contract nature, I'd probably have to take leases at 6 months a time as I'd often be going to different places within the asia pacific area (aus/nz/malaysia etc.). I'm guessing this shouldn't be a problem for accomodation but what about the car hire/lease? Can you lease a car for 6 months?
Thanks in advance.

This should give you an idea of house prices.
Friends in Sydney say that house prices there are seriously expensive (they rocketed before the Olympics and haven't dropped). They moved up from Melbourne and found that prices in Sydney were about double Melbourne prices. This may be different now.
No idea about car leasing though.

best way to find out is to cruise a few NZ letting and car lease sites - use www.google.co.nz for the search with the filter set to 'NZ'; or www.google.com.au if looking in Aussie.
I would expect Auckland to be cheapest, but you gets what you pay for ....
overall you should find car rental and accomodation a lot cheaper than comparable cities in the UK, (and current very high cost of 98 octane petrol is about 45p per litre)
