SPEEDING IN LANCS
This is coming into effect from Tuesday in Lancs. It's a step in right direction at least!

Drivers caught speeding in a 30mph zone will be cautioned if they reach 35mph, offered a speed awareness course at 36 and 37mph, and given a fixed penalty if they reach 38mph.

Fantastic idea. Let's give the people driving at a sensible speed who probably took the road conditions, time, weather etc. into consideration before going slightly over the speed limit a course, which may cost up to £200. Lots of money for the partnership there, excellent.
Then lets take the people who were driving really fast and who might, in some circumstances, actually need a course and, errr, not give them a course but just take their money and give them some points.
The truth of the matter is that the whole speed scam is nothing but a scam, a way to create more high paying jobs for civil servants, throw the police and bit of overtime and pay for it out of the pocket of the motorist.
About 3% of accidents occur at speeds in excess of the posted speed limit. What this means in the real world is that speeding kills as many people as accidents when putting on trousers. Yes, honestly, about 140 people die each year putting on their trousers. Ask youself why the government don't clamp down on trouser wearing and you have the answer to any question you need about their anti-motorist policies. They want to drive the private motorist off the road and they want your cash while they are doing it.
