Question Digital Camcorders that record direct to DVD - any opinions

Hi

With #3 kiddie on the way, I'm thinking of replacing my aging old camcorder with one of the new Sony direct to DVD jobs

http://products.sony.co.uk/productde...?id=11_61_6420

Question is, before I raid my piggy bank, are these any good, has anyone got one, any opinions etc?

I only need it for home movies of the kids etc, just seems like a good idea to be able to stick a blank DVD in and record straight onto it.

Anyone?

Also, best place to buy?

cheers

Neil

I have NO experience.

I wouldn't do it - I think DVD is a dying medium as memory sizes get so big they'll be straight onto microdrives in a year or two. I also suspect that the battery life from spinning a DVD won't be great (but true that a tape is perhaps no better). I'd get an industry-standard Mini-DV tape one. Pay enough (Sony TRV-80) and you can bluetooth it to your PC!
