Don't give them anything if you've got the absolute. Get a financial seperation order done pdq, cos if it's not done, your ex is still entitled to claim anything financially, at anytime throughout your life

Bloody Hell I am starting to think DBW has a point with all these 'uplifting' threads today! (No offence meant to any on this thread who are obviously not having much fun.)

Hi Jen
Am really sorry to hear about that I've done the divorce bit myself and saved megabucks - it's all been quite amicable which has helped. The actual process has cost me £210.00 complete for all the charges and I've got kids involved as well. let me know if you think I can help with any advice - I'm nowhere near an expert but may be able to help as I've only recently gone through it (although i've been separated for 3 years now).

jen,
if theres no children involved, and its an uncontested divorce, ie both parties agree, it can be done in 6 weeks, although you may have to go down the 12 month separation bit first.
if you do, u can use the time to split everything. if there is any dispute over who gets what, you will need a solicitor, and thats where the fun starts!!!
mine had kids, so took longer, and an ex who wanted everything!!!!
happy to say all long past but it is stressfull,, best form of diet yet!!!!

Rich, Make sure you get a consent order, this will finalise things after the divorce so that the fecking leaching biatchs can't get hold of anything else.
You might think that you have parted as friends and everything is hunky dory, but a few months down the line the evil, twisted, ribless split ***** will be stirring up a cunning scheme to come back for a second helping like a greedy buzzard feeding off a dead body in the desert.
Me bitter and twisted?? Never

After my divorce was finalised and she took half of the endowment policy that i had 100% paid and pretty much every major applicance in the house which I had to buy again!, I got the house to stay in as she couldn't afford to run it and as she got the above items.
I move on, decide to sell and get a house (after it was legally mine for over 12 months) with my new GF, then I get a letter from her solicitor wanting half of the profits and she put a block on the property sale, so I couldn't sell it until we sorted something out.
A judge said that she should get £12,000 more off me, but long story short, we settled on her getting £6k....Grrrrrrr,
I recommend a Capital clean break order...and for judges to mind their own fooking businesses ;-)

mart 360 - there needs to be 6 weeks and 1 day between decree nisi and decree absolute so can't see how you get 6 weeks from start to finish. Mine's just taken 6 months - granted there were kids involved but there's been no contesting and that was after 2 years separation and I was not claiming any money or any maintenance and there was no disputes.

It is 2 years separation. It's a piece of cake to do yourself, just make sure you have all bases covered, ie the financial clean break order especially.
Is kinda what I meant
Better still, send him a letter telling him to **** off
