Default Debt Recovery companies

Is it worth getting such a company involved for a debt of £160 ? How much would i expect to get back using such companies ?

Anyone got recommendations for a company based in Lancs that owes me the cash

Cheers
Sean

Try the court service online. I recently used it to destroy someone who owed me money.

Think Going to the small claims court is cheaper than a debt collection agency. I had someone owe me over £200 once and by the time I figured out costs and aggro I decided the best option was to print his name on Biz cards advertising "services" and post them around phone boxes in the area........... (Chickened out in the end but it would have been sooooooooo satisfying )!

AFAIK The way it works in most companies is that they 'sell' the debt to the debt collectors for , say, 50% of it's original value. The debt collectors will then take ownership of the debt and pursue it.

Thats right, and you only get a proportion of what they recover. Small claims is a much better way to go. Dont be daunted by going to court.

Check with the local court to see what the fee is, they vary depending whats involved. I dont remember ever paying more than £30 to get the ball rolling.

Just present your case in a clear logical manner. Substantiate your claim with any and all evidence you have.

In many occasions people see the summons and payup pronto, so it may not even get that far!

Good luck mate

It doesnt look that cheap

You have to pay the basic fee for starting the paperwork of between 30 and 400 pounds depending on the amount. and then a further £80 to go to trial

So for anything between 1000 and 5000 pounds thats going to cost you £200 which if you win will be given back, but your still not guarenteed getting the money back, so you are then another £200 down.

I've just done the small claims route and won, including the costs.

They have given him 28 days to pay, but I have the feeling that he won't Now I'mm looking at options for getting it back, there seem to be quite a few but none of them are a certainty.

I had my car stolen about ten years ago, I sued the little *** that nicked it. He didnt have a job at the time so although I was awarded costs and damages, initially I didnt get much (£200 on the 2k i was owed).

He got a job where a friend worked. Evidently he was boasting how he owed me some money but I would never get it. I phoned my solicitor, I presume he informed the court. The long and the short of it is that I got all the money I was owed, just took a little time.

The satisfaction of hearing that this repeat offender had to take his own car off the road for a while as he was a bit strapped for cash brought a little satisfaction!

(I also billed him for the additional costs associated with getting the initial sum off the little ****er)
