http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=327297

Ok as link says Aldi sat nav bargin, unfortunatley there all sold out but
i've just been to HALFORDS who do the exact same model and freatures for £399.99 i hear you cry, well......
come closer and listen, but don't tell everyone will you

HALFORDS WILL PRICE MATCH IT, SO IF YOU WANT ONE GO INTO UR LOCAL HALFORDS AND ASK THEM TO PRICE MATCH IT

Now should they give you any sh!te about it has to be instock, tell them to go buggerey as i have just brought one {pic to prove}

print it off and take it with you, if they still wont do it, my local HALFORDS has about 10 left so if ur local wont do it, give me a bell and i'll go down and buy the lot

mail me if intrested

Whose navigation software is it? For around £300 you can get Tomtom+refurbed Jornada+car kit from www.totalpda.co.uk

Its Navicom GPS with Navtech supplied maps and a Medion-Navigator interface, the current Medion maps are supposedly more accurate than the Tom Tom ones according to the Pocket GPS site!!!

It's a funny old world in'it ?

Came into work yesterday thinkin I was gunna have another boring day and saw your post Dazza. I have been looking for a PDA foa a while and decided to wait they came down a bit in price. I had not heard about the Aldi offer so I did not hold out my hopes of finding any in stock but I thought I wouold try my luck at Halfords as you suggested.

I left work an hour earlier and when to my local halfords just a mile from work. I spotted the huge display selling the PDAs for 399.99 and this is how the conversation went

me : "Do you have any in stock.....mate ?" ( always good to get on their good side - especially when I wanted a £130 discount !! )

him : "Yeah... these are selling fast tho' "

(then I went straight for the kill )

me: " The thing is I believe the same model is selling alot cheaper elsewhare"
(I expected a long drawn out debate of where, what , and why but that's when he shocked me !! )

him : " You must mean the aldi deal, yeah we will price match it - I'll go and get one from the store for you sir ".

I was gob smacked how could it have been so easy to get £130 knocked off ??

But my excitement was short lived when he returned to say sorry they were out of stock afterall

He was very apologetic that there ordering system was not fully updated but he said he would phone another store to see if they had any left.

He phoned the largest Halfords in the area who said they were sold out too

I was now beginning to think it was a conspiricy and if I had £399.99 to spend one would magically turn up in the store room.

He said he would try one more store to check their stock and as it was on my way home I thought it was worth a shot but I didn't have any hope.

He got off the phone and said they had one left and they would hold it for me. I was to ask for Alex who would do the price match for £269.99

20mins later I was in the other Halfords and I excitedly asked to speak to Alex.

"Er.. I'm afraid Alex has gone home.. can I help "

me : "Hope so, he was keeping the last PDA for me"

him : "Er.. sorry I dont think we have any left sir.. I'll just go and have a look"

10mins later he returned with the last one

me :"Alex did say it would be price matched to Aldi.. that's right isn't it ?"

him :"Only if Aldi still have them in stock sir. I will just phone them to find out"

Panic I Knew they would be well outta stock but this is when I pulled out my Ace card

me: "I've got a printout here from a friend who bought one today from Halfords"

him: "Oh.. I see.. I can't get through to Aldi anyway, I will just have to check with my manager then "

Fingers crossed ( but I didn't like the sound of that)

10 mins later

him: "Sorry sir, I can't find my manager and unless I can find a price match I will have to put it through for full price"

FFS me: "NOW LOOK, I've taken time off work" ( small lie ) "and the other store agreed with Alex that I would get this deal"

him: "Let me see if I can get hold off the chap you spoke to at the other store"

10 mins later

him: " Yes , we can do the price match sir"

Me: "Excellent"

Him: "How do you wish to pay sir ?"

Me: " Mastercard please" ( I had got my new card a few days before)

Him: " Do you have your pin number please ??"

Me : "FFS what's a pin number" ( If you have ever stood too close to a firework that was about to explode you will know how this guy was feeling )

Will post later with the final outcome !!!

I got the same flannel last night in Halfords...."need to check if Aldi have in stock" etc...think aldi must have closed at 5 as they couldn't get through...and then I have to "come back in in the morning and speak to the manager".

Had a play with it last night though...looks great. Well spotted Dazza!

O.K. here's the end of the saga !

This was the first time I had used my new Mastercard for a purchase since the bloody pin crap came in and I had no idea what mine was.

The guy serving could see how I was about to spontaniously combust so, as he didn't like the thought of mopping bits of me up from all over the store, he suggested that I just signed as per usual.

SO to cut a short story long.

I am now the very happy owner of a FANTASTIC PDA for just £270 !!!

Cheers and many thanks Dazza !!!! ( It took some effort but it was well worth it !!)

... and no wiring.. just plugs into the ciggy lighter !!

One bit of advice if u have 2 cars, dont use the sticky pads provided, use that velcro stuff instead so u can switch it from car to car

Glad ot worked out fine m8, bet that took bloody ages to type

here's the best bit as well, if you know someone who works for BOOTS, i think they get 20% discount from HALFORDS as well, but u may need to check on that one

Try this one:

http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.p...ewtopic&t=7892

Details on the second page. You basically download POI Warner for 29.99 Euros, download POI Edit (free), then on that Pocket GPS site is a file of all the camera locations, you use POI edit to change it from a Tom Tom file into an ASCII file and then stick it into POI Warner, job done!
You can then set 2 audio warnings - first and last.

You can also upload other POI (points of interest) files from that website. I currently have all KFC Hungry Horse Odeons UCI's UCG's etc all programmed in their too Each db file is a few kb's so very small too
You can have a different wav for each warning on those too, dead cool - just make sure you have the space!

Cool

just spoken to Halfrauds in Hertfordshire, they say they will do a price match no problems at all. So long as it's an offer available to the general public. I'm gonna take the copy of the receipt from earlier in this thread, going in after too make sure Aldi are closed. Will let ya all know 2m how I get on.
