Barcelona - Hotel recommendations
Can anyone recommend a good hotel in Barcelona? Must be central and not too modern in style, nice old gothic building would be great. 4 star rating minimum.
Also, any good restaurants and attractions that one should visit during stay?
Is there a rail link to the centre from the airport or is it cheap enough to take taxi to your accomodation?
Cheers guys.

Good rail link from the airport, cost a couple of quid last year. We stayed at the Grand Marina Hotel in the port, the best but expensive. For good food head to the port area and you have plenty to choose from.

Just been told by a friend to go to 'Hotel Colon which is opposite the gothic cathedral and built in the same style'
Fairly central as well I have been told

I went to Barcelona the other week and had a great time.
I can't really recommend a place to stay - we stayed at a small and cheap place called Europark and it sounds like you want something a bit better. It was tiny but did the job - in my view for a city break, as long as its comfortable then thats fine as you are out of the room most of the time. It was quite funny though, the lifts were tiny and when we had our cases with us we had to use one each!
It was quite a good location IIRC though.
We just jumped in a Taxi from the airport - I dont remember it being overly expensive. Getting around Barcelona we walked most of it, but also got a T10 for the metro - ten trips basically. There are several different tickets that you can buy rather than getting one each time.
As for sights, that was my gf's domain!
She had read up about the stuff to do so I just followed her around! Really enjoyed it though. The big thing is the Gaudi architecture which you will either love or hate, we loved most of it. Shopping is also good, from the big names to the smaller boutique shops, to the east of Las Ramblas mainly I think. We didnt do it, but there are also visits to the Nou Camp/Camp Nou where Barca play. The guide book said that people who werent footie fans would probably have a good time there, but at the end of the day (for those who are footie fans) you will only get so much from looking at another teams stadium, history, museaum etc...
Here are some piccies of some Gaudi stuff to whet your appetite:
Casa Batlló

La Pedrera - we went up on the roof here...pretty cool view and some cool chimney stacks and stuff....

Sagrada Familia -
This is part of the Sagrada Familia - apparently he started this towards the end of his life (he died in the 1920s) and it is still under construction!!
Spanish builders, eh!! Meant to be done by 2030 now!!

You should have a great time. I'll see if I can remember anything else......
