Cool Great Movie Opening Scenes

Just watch Withnail & I with a poorly (and self pitying) Mrs D

The opening scene with a hungover Paul McGann wandering round that squalid bedsit, with King Curtis playing Whiter Shade of Pale in the background must go down as one of the all time greats

Withnail & I is perhaps my favourite film ever.

For opening scenes, Bond films traditionally start with something good (apart from silhouettes of naked women...), but Die Hard 3, with the explosion even before the credits finish, was quite something.

Armageddon

...you just know it's going to be special effects fest after only a minute.

...and the merry-go-round opening of Face/Off.

Contact (but only the DVD version, NOT the VHS version)

excellent camera work / computer graphics, with totall deadly digital silence for about 5 or ten minutes (the first film ever I believe to have total silence for so long)

Yeah - T3

fooking big nuke coming from nowehere...

the start of snake eyes was good - something like one long shot 10 mins long - pity its the only decent part of the film - brian de palma needs a slap (unless it's one of his al pacino pics)

no-one mention Independance Day yet?
