Default Chicken Pox

Hello

My daughter has just come out in spots that seem to be Chicken Pox, and as several of her classmates have it, that more or less confirms it.

My question is about me: I have not had Chicken Pox before, and I am due to travel to America for work on Monday. Should I go? Am I going to disease everyone near me? Am I going to be stuck there if I get it?

I actually feel fine, but my wife put doubts in to my mind about travelling.

Thanks!

Steve.

Red face

If you mention it to the Airline they WON'T let you travel as u may be CONTAGIOUS (sp)

if u get it while you are there, they won't let you leave untill you are rid of it.

You've probably caught it mate.

Highly contageous and will probably come out as shingles in you.

A colleague's daughter had the pox and he wasn't sure if he'd had it in the past. He's currently halfway through his 5 week sick note.

I had it last month
Shingles is what you get if you've had CP before -- the virus lays dormant then flares up later in life.

I did lots of research. Your kids will have been infectious for 48 hours before the symptoms. The incubation period is two weeks, so if you've caught it (highly likely) you'll probably get symptoms in around 10-12 days from now. It's pretty sh1tty, I can tell you.

I was back in work after a fortnight (should have gone three weeks really, but my contract was expiring...). Still got some red marks (they'll fade) and craters (they won't) after 5 weeks.

You will also need to cover all the mirrors in your house, as your face will look like it's been inside a wasps' nest.

Seriously, if you do develop symptoms you should see the doctor as it can be serious in adults. In week three, you should develop a cough (I didn't ) -- if you find yourself short of breath you may have caught pneumonia. Apparently around 35% of adults who get chicken pox get pneumonia with it.

And you'll pay $$$$$s in fees unless you're covered by decent insurance.

Hello

Thank you for your advice. Having a wander around the internet, it appears that the symptoms will not appear for 10 days or so. Based on that I will probably go.

As I am going with the company, our travel insurance is pretty good. Not that I fancy being locked in a hotel room (or worse a hospital) for a week in Washington.

So you're prepared to potentially infect 100s of others?

Saying that, **** 'em. It'll do them good to lose some weight - fat b@stards.

It isn't contagious until after the week or two incubation period apparently. So as much as I may wish to, I cannot infect any Americans.

Everytime I fly long haul I catch a cold...it's almost gauranteed...catching chicken pox would make a change

Always got me wondering if the airlines are maintaining the filtration systems on the planes - cutting costs no doubt

I got chicken pox when I was 20 There was nothing worse than waking up, feeling like crap, look in the mirror and see some zit faced ugly mug staring back at you. It only affected me physically for a few days, but it left me almost housbound for 2 weeks because I looked like freak.

Oh....AND DON'T PICK!!!

I had chicked pox last year, at 30!! and its not pleasant.
Lying down on a million spots is disgusting, and I spent as much time as possible in a warm bath, and the shock when you see yourself in the mirror takes some getting over, lol, I have pock marks from it too!!

You'll feel and look pretty sh*tty, so if it does come out while you're in the states, be prepared to not want to leave your hotel, and especially not want to get on a plane or face airports.
