Does anyone here suffer with Eye Floaters?
They are black spots in your vision caused by junk ie blood etc in the vitreous humour(gel which fills the eye). I have had mine for 2 years now. after about 6 months they settled down but recently they have gotten very bad again. I find it quite distressing as they are constantly in my field of visin. I have had my eye checked several times, and all the docs say is "nothing can be done and learn to live with them" great!! Just wondered if anyone on here has experienced them?

I have had them for as long as I can remember. It must be at least 20 years, although I can't ever remember not having them. Loads of 'em too. Until I was about 15 I thought everybody had them...

Yeah i've got them, several in each eye and also a scratch on one lens. I've had them for ages and to be honest i only see them when i look at a flat white surface like a wall or ceiling, maybe mine aren't as bad as yours.
Most of the time i don't notice them, but if i'm bored i sit and move them around the room - beats counting sheep!

Are they the same ones all the time, or do they evaporate and new ones replace them? I can't work out if it means your eyeballs are a bit "leaky" and leak a bit of blood all the time, or if it means that something leaked on them once and now they're like that forever.
I'm pretty sure one of mine's been the same shape forever.

Have a look at...
http://www.floaters.net/fworld.html
and
http://interservicesnetwork.tripod.com/floaters/
for more info!!
I asked my optician about 'em last year after my normal eye test, and he did a further check (after a dilation drop). Although i thought that my left eye is worse, it turns out that there is a bigger floater in my right eye - but it is directly in my blind spot, so i can't see it!!!

Slightly - aged 41, and have had them since early teens. Most of the time I'm not aware of them, but they seem to appear and diasappear at random.
So mild and insignificant that they're not a problem though - don't interfere with driving or anything, I'm pleased to say.

Here's the gross bit The little black spots have been/are with you for life & are bits of your mother. They appeared as your eyes were forming in the womb & are bits of 'womb stuff' trapped within the lens & around the edges of the socket They tend to appear more if you are dehydrated because as your eyes 'dry' the bits tend to pick up & move around as you move your eye as HH says drinking fluids alleviates it.

Had them in my right eye for around 5 years, most of the time I don't notice them but if I'm looking down on something bright they are straight in my line of vision. Other wise they are slightly below my line of site, took me over a year to be able to ignore them.

pah, that's nothing!!!
I've had several hemorrhages at the back of my right eye, leaving me with constant floaters & a portion of my vision always gives me the impression I'm looking through water
& yes, they can't do anything, I've just got to live with it

Wow
Wow, I didnt realise so many people were affected by Floaters!! Mine change all the time, so its very hard to get used to them. I was coping fine with them up until a couple of weeks ago when they got really bad again Its probably due to the level of stress Im under, hopefully they will settle down in time.
Huxley, would a Vitrectomy help your situation? I know a lot of people are having this surgery done to remove chronic Floaters, although this surgery comes with a risk attached.

I have discussed the problem with the consultant at the hospital & they can't do anything.
It probably doesn't help that I'm diabetic
although I have to say I found it fascinating to have a large amount of blood sitting at the back of my eye because the eye is inverted, if you turn your head upside down, all the blood runs to the bottom of your eye - I used to spend quality time just moving my head around to watch the blood go in the opposite direction (yes, I am sick aren't I? )

I dont suffer but I amsurprised as I had a Corneal Ulcer caused by getting bits of birds nest in my eye when renovating my last house, to save time I just washed my contact lens under the tap and put it back, save time my ****, week of work in a darkened room, no reading no telly and a patch, optician always makes a point about it saying he is surpised it doesnt bother me !
A freind of our has blood pressure problems, she knows its up as it causes floaters and then partial loss of vision, scary.

Floaters are really common, most people have small ones that come and go.
I get small ones which are annoying, but also have a large permanent one in my right eye which appeared about 2 years ago and sometimes obscures my vision, which is really annoying.
Maybe in the future we can all be treated for this.

I believe floaters, are actually the remnants of blood vessels that were in the eye when it was forming . i can get mine to move, and they just wash down over the pupil, they have been the same size for many years now... after all if there dead, they cant grow..
