Hard to say. The majority of cases we don't know about. Many only ever hear about extreme cases in garbage like the tabloids. To make a serious judgement about this, we can't really base it on what we only hear about in the media.

Anyway, I'm sure some Sun readers will post rather soon

When motorists, who've committed minor traffic offences, outnumber people who've committed crimes in British jails, there is definitely something seriously wrong.

Hello

It depends on what crime of course. As mentioned above it appears that the Police are far to lenient when it comes to things that effect us most: Burglary and Muggings.

I seem to remember in the news that it is a recommendation that burglars just get a slap on the wrist for their first offence. Crazy.

Steve.

Hello Nathan

Sorry, I join courts and Police together. But you are right, the Police actually bother to arrest people and then the courts just mess it up.

It must be a frustrating job being in the Police at times.

Its not that it's too lenient/harsh its the fact that there's no ******* consistancy between courts, If you're a 'celeb', minted or your dads the Home Sectary/PM/'Lord **** of whatever' you'll get off lighter. Also, crimes involving money seemed to be punished more severely than say an assault. Did you know that recording a film at the cinema carries a maximum sentence of 10 years? 10 ******* years for that?
