Default Legality of Tenancy Agreement

If, as a landlord, I have a signed Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement with the tenant(s), does the fact that it is signed make it legally binding?

A discussion with another landlord I know suggests that the agreement needs a 'stamp' (literally a £5, or so, stamp from the Post Office) on it to make it legally binding

Anyone know anything about this??

TIA, Martin

Usually you need eithar a stamp or an independant witness signature to make things legally binding. If your stuck ring Citizens advice bureau and they can put all the legal jargon into laymans terms (01512858989)
