Question How to copy an oil painting?

Does anyone know where I can get a print done from an oil painting?

Would a local art shop provide such a service, or would I need to go to some sort of photocopying service?

Copyright issues aside, an art shop would be your best bet.

By copying, most places I've seen will "photograph" (digital capture either by camera or scan) the painting then will enble the picture to be either printed direct to paper or maybe even to canvas.

Cheers

No copyright worries - the original has been done by my Mum!

I was considering the digital camera idea too - the problem being printing it to the same size (A3) as the original...

Cheers.

That's no problem at all - try Peak Imaging who can print at whatever size you like and can also do canvas bonding.

Your problem is most likely to be getting a really good digital image to begin with. You'll need very carefully controlled lighting to make the image look like the painting, and not like a photo of the painting (if you get my drift). For A3 size you're really looking at using a digital SLR and a small studio setup if you want the copy to stand any close scrutiny without looking naff.
