That's right, you have to work your way up now to Class 1. This is why there is a shortage of drivers it costs a fortune.

You can also drive a draw-bar outfit on a class 2.

I used to drive artics for a living, brilliant time, excellent job...had to leave it on health grounds, miss it greatly. When I drove them in 1985-9 there weren't many women drivers, so I used to get quite a few comments from the lads...most of them very complimentary....some not so, but then that goes with the territory.

When I drove, I would take home at least £1700 a week, but then it was continental most of the time, with a 44 tonne step trailer for Norbert Dentresangle or 38 tonne bulker for Prosper de Mulder, or a 26000 litre bloodtanker with chicken offal ready for pet food production.

When you are handling raw chicken offal from the slaughterhouses you get paid very very well...we also handled other 'non human foodchain' meat/blood products from other slaughterhouses too...I even used to deliver 38 tonne bulkers full of the stuff to Stoke Bardolf where those nice blokes recently got done for reselling the stuff onto schools etc...

And due to carrying perishable loads, despite it not being for human consumption, we never used tachographs either but logbooks instead. I drove to/from Budapest every week with occasional UK runs inbetween. Excellent money to be had, if you can handle the hours and the stink/blood staining that comes with the job.

Cool Bull**** alert !!!

Sorry i dont mean to be rude, but 800 bhp in a plastic cab foden???(modern foderns are brit built dafs). The largest you can get in bhp from any dealer (volvo man daf merc ect)is 600 bhp. Even in the USA, the the figure is a bit much. The latest HEVs the army has bought (from oshcosh( the latest tank transporters )) is about 750 bhp which pull about 120 tonnes.
32 speed gearbox???.....are you insane????
Most is about 16, any more you need a torque converter.
As for £1700 a week ....if you are a owner driver bussiness then ok
but as a wage packet ...WOW...where do i send my CV....(last year i only earned 30k, working 55 hours on night and weekends
